Okay, here goes nothing. My first Lily/Severus fan-fiction, so be gentle please... and a warning, it could get a bit irrational from the books sometimes... don't criticize, because it has to be a little irrational at points to fit the plot.
------------------AND THE STORY BEGINS------------------
A 15 year old Severus Snape woke with a start in his bed, the 'alarm clock' his mother had given him for Christmas last year was beeping profusely next to him. He picked it up, turning it, shaking it, looking it over several times.
"How did mum say to turn the bloody thing off..." He said to himself, still fumbling with the clock. After about 10 minutes, he decided that little did it matter now-he wouldn't need it at Hogwart's. He grabbed his trunk warily, having an intense headache from the beeping that was still echoing from the other side of the room. He couldn't take it anymore! "Reducto!" He shouted at the clock, and immediately, with a loud boom, it exploded, and the beeping was gone.
He picked up his trunk again after dropping it on the floor when he got his wand, and set off downstairs for breakfast before catching the Hogwart's Express to his fifth year at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His mother, looking flustered, sat behind an island in the Snape kitchen... Severus had smelled the bacon, eggs, and pancakes that were his mother's specialty from far away.
"Good morning dear," She said brightly, not looking up from the eggs she was cooking.
"Morning mum... where's dad?" His father would have normally been in the kitchen by now, reading the newspaper at the table that he was now standing in front of. "I thought he was supposed to take me to Platform 9 3/4 today."
"Well, dear, your father had some... work to do, and I'm sorry to say that he won't be able to take you... I'm sure you can get out there by yourself?" She looked up at him, slapping a couple of pancakes, 2 eggs, and 6 slices of bacon onto a plate as an owl tapped at the kitchen window. She gave Severus an apologetic look and went to the window, letting the family owl in. Severus sighed and took the plate, walking over to the table.
"Yeah... I can get there." He ate quickly, walking out the door with his trunk thumping along behind him. "See you at Christmas, mum." He said back into the kitchen of the Snape mansion, and little did he know these would be the last words that he ever said to his mother. _________________

Severus neared Platform 9 3/4, too angry with his father to even pause at the shock of walking through a wall. He emerged onto the Hogwart's Express platform, and found an empty compartment-he didn't need to socialize right now. He slammed his trunk onto the rack and huffed down into the seat, staring blankly out the window at all the fathers waving off their sons. Sometimes he wished his father wasn't so busy with his 'work.'
"I hate Death Eaters..." He mumbled to himself as the train took off. Within the next few moments there was a knock at the compartment door, and a girl with flowing red hair and beautiful green eyes slid open the door.
"Severus? Do you mind if I-?" She stared pointedly at the empty bench across from him.
"Oh-Lily-no, not at all. Sit." He said, gesturing his arm to the bench next to him. "How are you? We've barely talked at all this summer, I missed you." He watched her blush at his last sentence, and open her mouth to speak.
"I've been amazing... I'm finally hitting things off with James, and-" The rest of her sentence was cut off by Severus' raging anger... James, that prat that would always make fun of him, and Lily liked him, of all people, it was insanity... he couldn't believe it. "-and they change into animals! It's amazing, Severus, you wouldn't believe!" She finished, sounding utterly amazed by the tone of her voice.
"I'm sure it is," He muttered, looking out the window with a cold glare on his face that could've broken the glass. The train excelled in speed and shook a little, making Lily yelp. His attention immediately turned back to her. "Are you alright?" He asked quickly, not caring if she thought he was stupid.
"I'm fine, thanks... the train, shaking like that, it scared me... I don't want to veer off the tracks and crash on my way to my favorite place." She smiled to let him know that she was fine, and moved over to his side of the compartment. "Are you feeling okay? You don't look so good." She put a hand on his shoulder, sending shivers down his spine.
Clearly it will be with Pettigrew. _________________ Follow, please follow me home

The train screeched to a hault, making Lily yelp once again-Severus knew one of her biggest fears were trains. He ran a hand through his hair, sighing and looking out the window at the Hogsmeade train station.
"Looks like we're here," Lily said brightly, pulling her trunk down off the rack and preparing to leave the compartment. "aren't you coming?"
"Oh-I'll catch up in a while." Severus said reluctantly, not wanting to walk out with her... they might run into James.
"Well, okay," She walked out of the compartment, her eyes not leaving his until she slid the door shut. Severus couldn't believe he had just let her go, in truth he wanted to walk out with her, he wanted to be with her every moment possible, but James... if he showed up, Severus didn't think he could handle himself. He clenched his fist and got up, getting his trunk from the rack where it lay, crooked from the force applied when it was set there. "I hate James Potter..." He muttered to himself, and walked out of the compartment, overcome by the usual swarm of students and buzz of chatter. He got in a carriage by himself, as usual.
A group of fifth years walked past him... he recognized them right away, the Marauders, as they called themselves. James Potter was right in the middle of them all, laughing, with Lily on his arm. He sneered, hoping they wouldn't notice him, but, as if they had read his thoughts, Sirius Black turned around and looked at him.
"Oi! James, look who it is! Little Snivellus back from summer holiday!" All of them laughed, all except Lily. She didn't look horribly angry, but she did seem a bit annoyed with all of them. "Maybe we should give Snivellus here a little welcoming present, eh boys?" Severus sneered at them, standing up and getting out of the carriage.
"Was that a challenge, Black?" He said, menacingly, his eyes seeming to flash red. "Or would you just like me to submit to your teasing again?" James seemed to be amused by Severus' bravery.
"Little Snivellus is standing up for himself now? The big bad Slytherin's finally getting some of his spunk, eh Snivellus?" James laughed with the rest of the boys, Lily showing no sign of amusement but keeping her mouth shut.
"I know spells you c-could never d-dream of, Potter!" He stuttered, trying to hide his fear of being bullied.
I'm 15 now, time to be a man... He kept telling himself, trying hard to not back down as he held the wand in his robes pocket tightly, waiting for James to draw his own wand. James turned back to the rest of the group, faking a terrified expression.
"Little Snivellus knows spells that I don't! How scary!" He mocked, laughing at Severus, the familiar glint in his eye. Just when Severus knew he was about to pull out his wand, a female professor with long brown hair tied in a bun walked up behind him.
"Mr. Snape, the headmaster needs to see you immediately... there is something we must inform you of." Severus' expression was perplexed, he didn't know anything was wrong... he didn't think there was anything his parents would want him to be informed of.
"Snivellus has some news! Poor ickle Snivellus!" James fake-cried, receiving a stern look from the professor. Severus sat with her in one of the carriages to the castle, not speaking a word. When they arrived at the headmaster's office, Severus sat down without a word.
"Good morning, Mr. Snape. Do you know why you are here?" The headmaster said.
"Erm... no, sir, I'm sorry, but I don't." Severus said, his brows furrowed from confusion.

Severus stared at the headmaster, shocked by what he had just heard.
"Well, Severus... you and I both know that the use of underage magic is illegal... and I believe you used the Reducto curse, on a Muggle device this morning?" He replayed the words in his mind, trying to prove them wrong, but he knew the headmaster spoke the truth.
"I did," Severus replied, looking at the floor.
"And you do know the consequences of your action... Severus, you are going to have to have a trial at the Ministry of Magic... the Minister himself will be arriving shortly to discuss the time with you." The headmaster said, his expression unfathomable.
"Professor?"
"Yes, Severus?"
"Am I going to be expelled?"
"I honestly do not know, Severus. I'm sorry." The headmaster had a look of remorse on his face, like this was all his fault. "The Minister will be here in a few moments... feel free to look around while you are waiting." The headmaster stood and walked out of the office, leaving Severus by himself. _________________
