PostPosted: August 7, 2007 1:28 am    Post subject: Official Role Playing Rules [Read Before RPing] Reply with quote

We've been having a lot of cases of immaturity, god-modding, and un-fairness in the Role Playing Section. We've added a new set of dueling rules to the general rules. PLEASE look all of the rules over before you start Role Playing again. People who are reported of breaking these rules will result in action taken up with the mods.

General RPing Rules:

Quote:
1. Please make sure the first thing you do is post your profile.
2. Make sure that you use no cussing and no sexual usage.
3. Do not, under any circumstances, take place of someone's character unless you have there given permission that is visible to me.
4. Make sure that you have one thread for each topic. For ex., if you posted a thread called The Forbidden Forest, and then you post another one called Day After, don't do this. Just post in your original thread.

Dueling Rules:

Quote:
Roleplay Dueling Guide and Rules

1 on 1 dueling:

1 on 1 dueling works in a turn system. The first person to strike has his/her turn, and then the opponent has his/her turn. One post is one turn. It’s quite simple.

2 on 2 (or more) dueling:
2 on 2 dueling is a bit more complicated. First, everyone needs to be present, you can’t do a 1 on 1 duel with a missing person, and likewise you can’t do a 2 on 2 duel with a missing person. The turn system goes by the entirety of the team. Team 1 has a turn, and then Team 2 has a turn. Each turn is 2 posts (one from each team-member). This follows the same formula for 3v3 and 4v4 duels. 5v5 and above dueling is not recommended.

Universal Rules:
Break one of these rules, and you will be forced to either edit your post, or forfeit the match.

1. When you have a spell coming at you, it will hit you in 2 seconds, so if what you're doing to defend yourself takes more than 2 seconds, you get hit. If it's completely impossible for you to do said action in 2 seconds, you have broken the rule.

Example: Person A shoots a stunner at Person B. Person B blows a hole in the wall, transfigures the debris into a sheild, and summons the shield over to protect him. God-mod because spells go faster than .5mph.

2. You only have another 3 seconds to attack.* Your opponent would not wait for you to walk over to your broomstick, fly to Hagrid's house, grab Norbert, and release a dragon on him. If it's impossible to do in 3 seconds, you can't do it.

3. The obvious god-mod, claiming to hit other people's character. The user decides if he gets hit (to an extent).

Example: "FM shoots a beam of green light that hits his opponent directly in the face"

4. Crazy Dodging. Don't dodge too often. I can't really put a number on it, but you'll know if you're doing it.

5. Protego only blocks 1 spell at a time, and some spells can't be fully blocked. **
Example: "Flamingmonkey said "protego" and all 3 curses were deflected."

6. 2 spells per attack (Spells used to defend yourself don't count). This kind of goes along with #2, since you don't have time to bomb your opponent with 25 curses, but just don't do more than 2 attacks (which is more than enough).

7. You may only use spells found in the books or the movies. You cannot make up spells to suit your needs.

8. If your opponent attacks you, you cannot ignore the attack.
Example: Post 1: FM shot a stunner at Cheater. Post 2: Cheater shouted “Sectumsempra” and slashed his wand at FM.

*3 seconds in a 1v1 duel. The team has a total of 6 seconds in a 2v2 duel, and proportional amounts of time in higher duels.

These rules are liable to update, depending on how many people found different ways of exploiting the system.

Pretty much, if someone fires a spell at you while dueling, god-modding is just totally ignoring the spell or making up some insane way of blocking it(like a shield to block and Unforgivable Curse) that would be impossible.

^ Another form of god-modding is saying you hit a character with a spell. The user chooses whether or not to be hit (to a degree). How fun would the duel be if it was:

"Flamingmonkey said 'Avada Kedavera!' There was a flash of green, and his opponent died,"?

Is there a rule against making up spells?
If there isn't, I submit there should be.

Yes, I think there is.

Also, we need to clear up the extent that people can dodge. They have been duels in which people never got hit because they don't want too.
