| To be honest i hadnt even noticed it b4 sum1 sed 2 me after GOF! Then i noticed it obviusly but i sumhow didnt pik up on it, i think i mainly focused on harry and hermione wen reading them the first time! But evn now only start 2 c it from GOF onwards, i dnt c it in PS of COS! Films mak it REALY obvius tho! |

I've reread books 2 & 3. And I think they're just looking at each other in a friendly light at that point. However there are hints of a developing romance.

I had the thought during SS and CoS, but after I read PoA I knew for sure. All the bickering and fighting just reminded of a couple, they were so cute.

Yeah I thought it was pretty obvious from their first encounter that JKR planned to have them get together. It's classic literature: Beatrice and Benedick
And of course Han Solo/Princess Leia. I'm sure there's 100 other examples.
When did the characters begin to realize? I think Ron probably sometime during the 2nd book the whole "eat slugs!" (was that just in the movie? Haven't read the 2nd book in a while) and Harry having to hold him back while they were impersonating Crabbe and Goyle when Draco threatens Hermione. For Hermione toward the end of the third book, when they make up and Ron offers to help with Buckbeak's legal case. There's a strong parallel there with how they finally get together. Ron showing an interest in what Hermione is interested in. |
