I agree, he was the best director. Movies 3, 4 and 5 have only been so-so compared to the first two.

Me too, but has Yates heard backlash from the fans, or are the complaints only on forums? That's the question.

Perhaps the reason the 5th movie was short and not very informative was the different screenwriter. Hopefully when Kloves comes back, it will be better.

I'm hoping this too. I'm kind of glad Kloves is back, because it's most likely that he'll write DH too.

A lot of celebrities and whatnot go around saying that they don't read their reviews... well some should. For instance, Yates.

See, that's why I thought the letters were a good idea.

Most letters writen to celebs are never actually read by them. They get read by family, friends, bodyguards, etc. It's kinda stupid.

And a director of a major movie? he wouldn't think twice about looking at one of these forums.

I know, it's aso annoying. And I doubt their "people" will hand them any negative letters. Perhaps that is why any of them can be arrogant. By any of them I mean Yates. He said awhile ago he wanted to keep the time limit on the movie down. And since he said that all the fans have been making negative comments. Yet he refused to reconsider. HIs arrogance is his downfall. Such a shame.

Pacing and storytelling in a film are different than in a book. I felt that the poorest directed of all the movies was, by far, the second movie (Chris Colombus). I don't judge the movie solely by how closely it matches every scene and nuance of the book, because the result may end up a mish-mash when viewed on the screen. The best directed was the 3rd movie - not my favorite story, but the best told.

The final cut of the film is usually determined by contract. The director usually is responsible for the final cut, but may be obligated to turn it in under a certain running time, or the producer can force him back into the cutting room if the producer doesn't like what he sees. A powerful and successful director may be able to get a contract that gets him complete and sole authority on the final film version, but it is rare.

All that said, I enjoyed the 5th movie, but I felt that more could have been put into it - the book was long and it needed some more running time.

LoL

It would be really interesting to see Fans direct the last 2 Harry Potter movies. But you can bet there are some twisted ones that would really really mess them up!

Yes, some are

And i figured you figured i'd say Harry and Hermione get together.

I even read somewhere online that a group is trying to get permission to create a Harry Potter movie that is word for word from the book.

That would be so cool... but I can't imagine other actors in the parts. And the sets they use...
I mean, the movies obviously have their flaws. But if they made certain changes, it might not be worth the sacrifices.

Not to defend Yates or anything but directing is rather hard. There are a lot of reasons why directors/producers/screenwriters omit certain minor or even major characters (ie: Lavender Brown hasn't made an appearance with the exception of a cameo in the second film, or in the 5th film several of the Order who go and rescue Harry from the Dursleys are removed). Some is related to the CGI and special effects. And some, it's just too darn hard to film something. Fans don't really know how to do it but rather what and why certain things should be included.

Were not saying directing isn't hard. But Yates didn't even attempt to film some of the scenes. And he left out several VITAL parts, completely messed up several story lines. He doesn't get any sympothy.

He knew what he was getting into by accepting the directing job - he should have done a better one (HP had a chance to win oscars from GoF to DH, but because of bad Directing, the cast and crew will be lucky to get 1)

Yes! i hav been thinking this forever, but whenever i told anyone about it, they didnt get it

and, i kno this sounds stupid, but if i was the director of the next HP film, i would definately get on one of the hp forums just to see what all of the fans really want from the movie. i think that it would really help with some of the decisions that they hav to make regarding what should and shouldnt be taken out of the movie

If I was the director then I would atleast look at what other said about the movies, and then consolt the book.

And then tell WB that it was going to be a 4.5 hour movie and if they didn't like it then they would just have to suck it up (well maybe i wouldn't say that.)

Haha, I highly doubt WB would even let them film a 4.5 hour film. 3-3.5 hours is good enough and should fit even the longest of the books (cough, the Order of the Phoenix).
