Is Sirius really a good guy? I mean he is trying to kill someone, he attacks the Fat Lady, he invades Hogwarts, breaks Ron's Leg.

Is he really the stand up kinda guy people think he is?

well years in azkaban had slightly deranged him, and he'd been left to brood over peter all that time. and rons leg could be mended pretty fast. now the fat lady seemed a bit much...he needs to control his tempter better. I've never really liked him as much as others seem to, not to say I dislike him because I don't. he's just not My Hero or My Man, or zomg the best character ever.

I'm the one that thinks "zomg the best character ever."

I think he was a good guy, but as Arabella said, years in Azkaban made him a bit derange.

Also, don't forget that the guy he is trying to kill sold out his best friend to the Voldy bringing about the death of him and his wife...and also framed Sirius for that as well as his own murder...

...and that Sirius realized that this guy was living as a rat very close to his dead friend's son...and could have hurt him at any time.

only problem was that wormtail was too much of a coward to hurt harr.
Spoiler:

as we see in DH because Harry was mercyful to him he has just a moment to think about it and then unwittingly sacrafices himself for harry - justice i think

And I do agree that being stuck in Askaban for 14 years is quite a long time...a very very long time.

But still.....he's kinda Mad. And if he wanted Wormtail brought to justice so quickly then why doesn't he go nuts when wormtail gets away?

He was a little distracted I think with Lupin wolfing out and the dementors and such....probably.

And the book doesn't really talk in detail about what happened when Sirius was taken up to the castle...it just cuts to Harry and Hermione and their time-traveling adventures...so he might have displayed some upset-ness...or maybe he resigned himself to his fate.

True, but he's not brooding when Harry and Hermione come to free him, and he doesn't say "Darn that Wormtail" he just says ok Harry, wanna come live with me?

And then he's gone.

I think at that point he was resigned to the fact that he could do nothing about Wormtail...and was just glad that some people...especially Harry...knew the truth...

I was merely pointing out that we are not told how he behaved upon waking up once brought to the castle...he could have flipped out.

Ok, I agree. Rowling has a habit of that (of not letting us know what's going on at important times in the story.) But who knows...

Sirius still is a bit nutty in this book (he's alittle better in the other ones), but How could Lupin have trusted him? Since it seems like even Dumbledore couldn't trust him.

Because Lupin saw Pettigrew on the map.

I think there was a bit of mistrust going around...and there was information passing to Voldemort before James and Lily went into hiding...someone was a spy...Lupin and Dumbledore didn't know that Sirius was not the SecretKeeper for James and Lily...Sirius, however, knew that Pettigrew was...

Makes sence, but then why didn't Lupin tell Harry about him? When Harry said he saw Wormtail...why didn't Lupin tell Harry his theory?

I think it's becuase he didn't quite trust Sirius yet, not until he sees wormtail for himself.

That makes since. I mean Lupin, like everyone else, was convinced that Sirius was guilty and Pettigrew was dead...so naturally, he had to see Pettigrew on the map for himself...otherwise, Harry might have just imagined it.

Still he let Sirius into the castle before he knew that for certain.

Another point why sirius is a bit nuts: he keeps scareing the crap out of Harry.

Lupin never let Sirius into the castle.

And I don't think Sirius ever meant to scare Harry...

How does sirius get into where the fat lady is then? I though Lupin let him in....

I'm pretty sure that Sirius snuck onto the grounds as a dog...Lupin never let him in...Snape just was quick to accuse him because Lupin and Sirius were friends back at school...and there was quite a bit of bad blood between Snape and Sirius

That's true, but wouldn't someone have seen a big dog walking around the castle?

And - I may be wrong on t his - didn't lupin have the Map at that time? If he did he could have seen Sirius.

Agreed. Since Sirius was one of the makers of the Map, I'm sure he memorized all the passageways, and that's how he got into the castle.

That also explains why Snape thought Lupin let him in, Snape most likely does not know the secret passageways.

Plus Snape hated them both so much that as far as he was concerned it would have been the best thing ever if Lupin was helping Sirius...then they both would be gotten rid of

Ok new twist, if Sirius was such a wonderful guy why didn't he go straight to Dumbledore (who whould have listened to him talk before he called the dementors or Auror's etc) and tell him his idea. At which point Dumbledore could have called Ron in and had ron bring the rat.

Sirius could have gotten help, but he didn't why?

Sirius thought Dumbledore wouldn't believe him. If he knew Lupin didn't believe Sirius (And they were best friends), Why would Dumbledore?

That doesn't make him a bad man for not going to Dumbledore, that makes him a cautious man.
