I was watching the movie and I saw the ending where Dobby get's freed and then Lucius pulls out his wand and I heard him say distinctly "Avada" and then it get's cut off. Was he trying to kill Harry? That was the Killing Curse. So then was he?

I don't know if he was going to kill Dobby or Harry, but I guess he thought better of it. ;P Strange man.

I noticed that, too. I checked and it's not in the book. He doesn't even raise his wand, just "lunges" at him before Dobby intervenes. It definitely sounds like he's about to say "avada kedavra." I really thinkit was added in there by JKR. Like, the screenwriter or the director wanted him to go to do a spell and asked JKR which one they should go for. That's what I think, anyway.

I think it was sort of a little nugget for fans of the books to pick up on. if someone had read GoF they could have realized this, but not if they'd just seen the movie. though I guess now if they went back and watched they would notice too. It does seem quite harsh though...

It was probably just to build abit of suspence, you know what film makers are like.

I never really noticed it the millions of times i watched the movies. But if i watch it again I'll probably notice it because I am looking for it now.

Very interesting though...I do believe this was inserted for the readers. Because up until that point in the movie series I dont believe Avada Kedavra had been mentioned. The only people who would have known what Lucius was intending would be those who had read the books.

I noticed that as well also. But I agree that it probably was just to add suspense for the readers (since people that just watched the movies probably wouldn't know what Avada Kedavera was anyway).

I thought that as well, although the book doesn't say that he says anything.

And he wouldn't have been trying to kill Dobby, he was trying to hurt Harry Potter, because Dobby was "protecting" Harry Potter. "You will not harm Harry Potter" said Dobby - right before he sends Malfoy flying across the room.

He was threating Harry Potter, but he should have known that Dobby would have been willing to defend him, after all Harry had just freed him.

But that didn't stop him from being really really stupid.

i noticed that the 3rd time i watched it but at that time i wasnt sure what the avada kedavra (killing curse) was at the time.

but now i know and its quite scary to think that he was tempted to kill one of them in hogwarts right outside dumbeldores office.
