Why was she so cold towards Hermione after reading Rita Skeeter's reports on her?

I mean, she sent her a smaller easter egg and I swear at some point in the book she asks Hermione angrily whether she is going out with Harry - surely she knows her well enough to know that the rumours aren't true and that she is not taking advantage of Harry?

It just doesn't seem like Molly was being very nice, why did she react so harshly?

Well, Molly read about how a girl she let stay in her home who is best friends with her son broke Harry's heart, who is also like a son to her. What mother wouldn't be ticked off?

And.. yes, she did believe it. It says in the book... chapter 31...

Harry looked between them, then said, "Mrs. Weasley, you didn't believe the rubbish Rita Skeeter wrote in Witch Weekly, did you? Because Hermione is not my girlfriend."
"Oh!" said Mrs. Weasley. "No - of course I didn't!"
But she became considerbly warmer toward Hermione after that.

It seems Molly believes a lot of the media ... so it wasn't surprising that she accused Hermione of playing Krum and Harry...

Molly may have also cottoned on to Ron's feelings about Hermione. She could have been upset because Ron was upset (seeing Hermione going out with Krum, what Rita was writing in the Prophet...)

Ron struck me as a mama's boy (at least at that stage of the story), so I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't confided in her his feelings. Either that or Molly was just very insightful...

Well, Ron's feelings were not that obvious at that time. And he was at Hogwarts during the whole year... I bet Molly didn't think of Ron.
But she was surely upset because of what that femme fatale did to Harry! hahaha
I remember I laughed a lot when I read this!

Well she sees Harry as a son and does have the tendancy to over protect her children at time. I guess she was a bit p*ssed that someone was toying round with Harry's feelings like that.

Molly is a mother that can be easily fooled because she easily believed in rumors and ramblings. She was fond of Hermione, though she treated her coldly for a brief time after Rita Skeeter printed lies about Hermione toying with the hearts of Harry Potter and Viktor Krum, much to Hermione's bewilderment. After Harry explained that the stories were false, Molly once again warmed up to Hermione. Hermione became one of Molly's several daughters-in-law after she married Ron.

I think because she knows Ginny likes Harry but Hermione took her daughter's crush?
