Why does your server go slow at times?

Server speed depends on the amount of people trying to access the site and what you're doing personally on your computer. If you're downloading a lot of stuff your internet browsing will be slower. Its like a pipe, the pipe is only so big and if you're downloading something and its taking half the pipe, you only have the remaining space to get through. Make sense?

The site has been running slow sometimes because the server has been overloaded with the recent explosion of activity. I'm working on purchasing an upgraded server, but this takes time and money. Unfortunately, we will all have to deal with these intermittent problems for a bit.

It's running fine right now, but every few hours it get's overloaded and hiccups for a few minutes. When that happens, the performance is very bad.

It's not. Your computer's specs can't resolve or even compensate for the server's problems. All it can do is help you render the pages faster. However, if your computer never gets the page from the server, the speed at which it is rendered doesn't matter. Also, the time it takes to display one of our pages pales in comparison to the amount of time it takes the server to generate and send a page.
