Why couldn't they have used Legilimency on Sirius?

If they did, they would have been able to discover that he was innocent.

Because Barty Crouch wasn't handing out fair trials.

Because witnesses said that they saw Wormtail do it, which was enough evidence for them

Because then it would STILL be Sirius's word against who ever performed the legilimancy.

Because that's just how the story goes and if it happened any other way then everything would've been different.
