I noticed that too. I think Harry was practicing magic and that was okay. That's why he didn't got in trouble. Hermione's spell in Diagon Alley was okay too. Besides, the magic was not in front of Muggles. Hermione always follows rules.

That's sort of what I was thinking, too. If it isn't in front of Muggles, all should be fine.

I'm not sure. It's still illegal to use magic outside of school whether it's infton of muggles or not. Ron isn't infront of muggles at home, and he doesn't use magic.
Stupid film. *

I noticed this yesterday as I was reading the book! He's using a flashlight in the book, and then I thought of the movie and remembered he was using Lumos! I'm like "that's underage magic!" to my niece.

Thing was though, Harry almost got canned for ACCIDENTAL magic. Can Harry do non-verbal spells? No.

yeah i noticed the mistake in the 3rd movie . it's pretty obvious and right at the beginning. but i wonder: do they not ask J K if something isn't right? it wouldn't cost them anything to show her the script . just saying. or maybe she's glad with them ruining the logic of the books as long as it brings lots of money.

In this movie Serious black looks drunk! He looks like he just drank 4 gallons of beer!!! No offence to him but he is like swinging from side to side! weird.

Inaccuracy in the movies, YEP!

My theory is this: I think they allowed that bit to lapse since Harry would eventually do underage magic blowing up Aunt Marge.. so I think they took the advantage of making Harry do other magic in the beginning..

But you've got to admit, it was the BEST opening sequence among all Potter films.. I mean, in terms of film making.. the movie starting with a small glowing light then LUMOS MAXIMA! dancing "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" on screen.. bril! Very Happy

Eh it's not that big of a deal. He's just using it to read. It's different than casting a Patronus in front of a Muggle, but I agree, it wasn't in the book.
