Maybe I dosed off while reading but I can't remember how Nevile got the sword to kill the snake? The last I remember reading was the goblin took it while at the bank. Did it make it back to Hogwarts via the sorting hat which was put on his head by Voldemort?

The Sorting Hat brought it to him because he was a true Gryffindor.

Exactly. Any true gryffindor can pull the sword out of the hat.

I would surmise that Godric Gryffindor added some sort of magic to the sword that it could come to ANY true Gryffindor, which was stated in the second book. I think even though a goblin made it, magic was added so there will never be a single owner ever again. Even though the sword came to Harry it was never truly his to own.

It's already been established that Neville got it from the Sorting Hat because any true Gryffindor can pull it from the hat.
