I think the exchange rate from wizzard to British is about 19 Knuts to a Pound. Wizzard to American would be about 10 Knuts to a Dollar.

Any questions?

First off, I said, "I think."

As for how, in Philosipher's Stone it's revealed that a copy of the Daily Prophet costs 5 Knuts for delivery. I am assuming that it costs as much as most papers I've seen (minus tips). But 19 Knuts to the Pound sounds about right to me.

One problem I have with that is that a lot of stuff is a lot more pricy than it should be. For example, a wand (something every wizzard and witch should have) costs about $540 (American). Then again, maybe Wizzards have higher wages than Muggles.

k maybe JK wasnt too worried about the exchange rate when she wrote the book.

She probably chose prices randomly.

I agree that she just chose randomly. If I were to write a book I would do the same thing.

wow...but 19 is an annoying number....gosh....that will bother me until no end now...

a wand causing a little more than half a grand to you? ollivander didnt seem to concerned about money...considering the description of his store (peeling and dusty) but i mean then again....its a tool you use your whole life (unless you are ron or hagrid Laughing ) that can be used to conjure, eliminate, and do virtually everything!!!

id sure as hell pay that much Shocked

Eh? 19 Knuts to a pound? Great Britain Pound? From that Wiki page, it seems that you have your conversions wrong. Or am I missing something?

Assuming a Galleon = 5 pounds (according to that wiki page you linked), then 98.6 Knuts would equal 1 Pound. They'd be nearly pence.
