Because scholastic didn't think Philosopher's Stone sounded exciting enough for an American audience _________________

I heard that someone reported that it was called the Sorcerors stone in the US because americans don't know what a Philosopher was. (Ithats not me saying that it just what I heard - not trying to insult anyone).
Wasn't the book called the Sorceror's Stone?? In the UK they were both called the Philosophers Stone. _________________ Bubbles

World wide the movie is Sorceror's Stone, but the books is where it differentiates.
Apparently the Brittish Audience was very pissed that it was called Sorceror's Stone instead of Philosopher's Stone. _________________ The boy who lived marries the wrong girl.

Yes, the US copy of the book is called 'The Sorcerer's Stone', but even though I live in the US, I like to call it 'Philosopher's Stone' And no, I don't know why they changed the name. _________________ "So I dub the Unforgiven" |

^ name changed because the US already had a book titled "The Philosopher's Stone" and didn't think that anyone would buy a "copy book."
Also, Sorcerer's Stone is an americanized version (meaning wording and phraseing are different) and you can really see the difference when you read 5,6,7 vs. 1,2,3. _________________ The boy who lived marries the wrong girl.

It was because the Americans didn't want their children reading about alchemy (philosopher's stone is an alchemic story - I watch FMA), so sorceror sounded more like the theme!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________

But it's the exact same story. Plus it's actually accurate to alchemic history. It being called "Sorcerer's Stone" makes no sense, no where else in the book did JKR rename things taken from history.
Don't judge a book by it's cover, kiddies. _________________

some where in an interview JK Rowling said that she regretted letting the american version be called sorcerers stone now.
is the film version only known as philosophers stone in England or is it like that in most countries? |
