why were muggle borns notified of hogwarts (which harry suspects they were) if they were just going to be captured and interrogated? it would've been easier just to let them keep thinking their muggles.

but the ministry already knew who the muggle borns were, why not just hunt them down, then? why bother even letting them know they're wizards and potentially having a fresh batch of enemies arise.

do you mean why didn't they just go to their muggle homes and shackle them? I doubt muggleborns going to hogwarts would be allowed to be there very long. they'd have to go to a hearing and then they'd...well whatever they did to them.

don't even shackle them. just finish them off. voldemort had the ministry in his pocket, he could've done it easily.

i would be a much better dark lord than him. haha

well...but letting them go to hogwarts for a little makes it like taking candy from a baby, rather than never giving the baby candy at all. which is crueler? I think taking it away is.

i reckon it would be more cruel, but they would still have some way of defending themselves. olivander said a wizard of any calliber could channel their magic more effectively through a wand. so getting them to hogwarts (when they would have to have a wand) would pose more of a threat than just taking them out while they sit at home, blissfully ignorant of the fact that they can do magic.

it would be nice to have them all together, though. but then they could all try something at once.

This was so the government could look like they were doing the right thing by having the muggleborns come in for trial. It was a way of rounding them up, then getting rid of them. Saved them from doing the dirty work and going out after them. This way, the Ministry could attemps a sneak attack on the muggleborns, make it look like like the trials weren't a big deal, so that they and the blood trators wouldn't try to fight back until it was too late and they were already rounded up. The few muggleborns who knew it was a trick would run for it... and since that was illegal, the Ministry could get them on those charges. The muggleborns couldn't win. It was like a game to the Ministry, but no matter what, the Ministry always won because they made the laws and the laws were impossible to avoid. It was the same thing that real governments have done.
