Has anyone else heard Newsround news.
They are saying that if you listen to your iPod/MP3, too loud, you could go deaf. I know this is probably true but know it is starting to scare people. I am now scared to listen to my iPod incase i go deaf!

Just don't max out the volume and you will be fine. Turn it to a level that does not feel like you are harming yourself, most people can tell when it is to loud for themselves. Most people just don't bother though.

the problem is when you're in a loud place...then you have to turn it up higher than you normally would to hear it. sometimes I don't even realize until I turn it off, and my ears kinda hurt.

I don't know when my dad heard about this but, my dad said those headphones you put in your ears to listening your ipod or mp3. It isn't good for your ears anyway. But again if those headphones isn't good for your ears then how you going to listen to your ipod or your mp3 player without headphone then? Do you know what I mean though? I listen to my ipod everyday with headphones.

I've also heard that if you listen more than 30 min, on more than half volume, everyday you'll have trouble with your hearing

why would you listen to it at more than half volume though? if there's not a lot of other noise most songs are good on the 1st volume setting...but as I said earlier...if you have to drown other sounds out it can get pretty loud.

oh my gosh. this news has been around forever! common sense:
you listen to loud music, your ear drums shatter. it's not that hard people. and Amanda, i think your dad's talking about those headphones that fit into your ear, not the ones that fit around your ear

if you listent to any loud sounds for extended periods of time, eventually your hearing will start to fade...
Also, have you heard of tinnitus? You can get it from consistant loud sound. I had a professor who was a music producer that had this. He couldn't produce anymore because of it.

Quote:
In almost all cases, tinnitus is a subjective noise, meaning that only the person who has tinnitus can hear it. People describe hearing different sounds: ringing, crickets, whooshing, pulsing, ocean waves, buzzing, dial tones, even music.

The affects of a fast, loud sound at repeated intervals is more damaging then ongoing sounds.

wow this is so wierd: just about 2 hours ago i overheard a random statistic about this at school. hehe.
aparently 1 in 10 people go deaf around the age of 30 (or something) from listening to ipods. roughly. ish.

i usually only listen to my ipod when i'm going to sleep or in my room along so it's really quite. so i only really listen to it on the very lowest setting it goes.
i only put the volume past halfway when i'm in the car or something so there's a really loud noise around me.

Our but the main reason for iPods is to go out and about with it.
Otherwise we might aswell just listen to Music on our Computers.
