Do the books ever actually say why Peeves is afraid of the Bloody Baron?

I think generally the BB is just a scary character and Peeves maybe a poltergeist but he's not nasty, just mischeivious - I mean everyone is afraid of something, whether you're a ghost or living! I think it may be because the BB is the only ghost in the castle with an evil, murky past (hence the silver blood all over him). It would be interesting to have a sneaky peek into exactly why Peeves is afraid of the BB tho - maybe they were alive at the same time and something happened then.

Peeves is a poltergeist, not a ghost and has never been alive. That's why he can pick up things and stuff.

No, she never mentioned why he is afraid of BB. And Peeves wasn't even mentioned in Book 6. I doubt we'll ever find out why. |

well its kinda obvious why hes scared of him...wouldnt you be? if some ghost always quiet and mysterious with blood all over him lived in the same place you did?....i know i would

I agree. I think that it is as simple as the BB stands his ground with Peeves and probably nothing more than that. |

Hm. Bloody Baron, could've been the one who killed the other Hogwarts Ghosts? Doubt it, and still, why would Peeves be afraid of that? He's already dead.
I guess, the Bloody Baron, is just an ass all together.

Maybe they new each other before. Baron is kind of royal-ish and Peeves seems really Jester/Joker-ish.

haha almost everything in harry potter has importance. im sure if we were told what synthetic fibers made the sock that harry freed dobby with itd be important 
but yeah i agree with all of you. and even so...none of us know how old peeves is....he could be the BB's son for all we know (oh the twists and turns we all come up with)
