I think he was in some void between the cabinets; he wasn't "in" hogwarts. Maybe he apparated to the edge of the void and fell out of the cabinet into a toilet? I dunno, I never really thought about it

This has to be something that will be answered, in my opinion. You can't apparate inside Hogwarts. JKR made very sure we are aware of that, Hermione says it at least several times in every book. But we also know that JKR thought out this story very carefully. So instead of thinking this is a mistake, I'm thinking that this is something we will be exploring in the final book.

"Montague told me that when he was stuck in the Hogwarts one, he was trapped in limbo but sometimes he could hear what was going on at school, and sometimes what was going on in the shop, as if the cabinet was travelling between them, but he couldn't make anyone hear him... In the end, he managed to Apparate out, even though he'd never passed his test."

It doesn't mention Montague apparating at all in OotP, which is why I think it will be important in DH. Especially since we didn't find out about something so supposedly impossible to do until the very end of DH, right before the climax.

It made me really angry when I found out what happened to him. He could've been seriously injured or could've even died. >:[

I agree with Half Blood Prince. He may have been close enough to the shop that he could apparate. He then could have ended up in the lake and taken up the pipes to the toilet.

you guys are overlooking this incident...it doesnt matter how he did it, cuz this is what inspired draco to get the death eaters into hogwarts. the whole point of that story was set up for this purpose

I meant that it was in OotP when Montague did the apparating. But we didn't know what he did was apparated. All Draco told Snape was that Montague showed up in a toilet. The word apparating didn't appear in Draco's statement to Snpe, nor anywhere else in the book concerning Monatgue. JKR kept how Montague landed in the toilet a secret from us so we'd be surprised. And now curious as to how he managed it, even though he didn't pass his test and (as we know from Hermione telling us) you can't apparate inside of Hogwarts.

so what you mean is "montague thought he apparated" but no he didnt apparate. he came to the hogwarts toilet by some other method.

so if montague didnt apparate (since ya cant apparate inside hogwarts), how could montague have ended up in the toilet? the toilet isnt inside the vanishing cabinet, nor do i think it is near the toilet where his head got jammed up. ill read ootp tomorrow to review it.

I dont think Montague was actually in hogwarts. Correct me if im wrong but it was never said that half of his body was in hogwarts and another half was at Borgin and Burkes. What probably happened was, like Draco said he was stuck in limbo somewhere in between being at the actual place and going into that place.

Probably im not making any sense, but lets say you go inside a tunnel to cross to the other side, and you get stuck in the middle you wont be at either side but you could still hear what happening at both ends. Thats how i imagine it anyway, he wasnt actually in Hogwarts thats how he could apparate.
