I wonder, why the portartes can talk but the regular photographs cant.... Maybe because they're so much bigger? What do you guys think? _________________

Prolly some sort of ancient magical charm or spell... maybe the portraits are made to think and say what the person thought and said before they died or something... Or maybe its their spirit or something... Kind of like a ghost?

yeah i gues... kind of like a ghost.
jkr said (in her site i think) that ghosts are an imprint of the departed. and stuff like the sorting hat, portraits, and the marauders map are an imprint of the departed. so maybe, when you die, you can leave your imprint on something. like i guess a part of you remains earthbound while the rest lives on in the underworld (the next life).
well i cant really explain all this. but jkr said that this will be tackled in book7 (no, i dont think about why portraits can talk and photographs cant) but the mysteries of death, the imprint of a soul, and horcruxes. that might be what "deathly hallows" means.
i think there's gonna be some philosophical bit there because of the nature of life and death. so i really dont think that jkr's books are children's books. _________________

That makes a lot of sense... But if you think about ti logically, the merorder's map was made when MWP&P where all still alive. So I think that the map may be a different cercomstance...
But I think that teh HP books where made for like teens more than kids... _________________

yeah... still kids, but not quite kids.
no i mean to say you may leave an imprint of yourself whether dead (ghost) or alive (marauder's map, sorting hat)
although if its possible to do such a thing, then why didnt dumbledore (or whoever else) have a portrait made, put his imprint upon it, and have a portrait that can talk whilst they are still alive. all the subjects of the portraits seem to be dead... dumbledore in fact only got a portrait when he died. so there might be some links between the portraits and death.
hope jk answers that. _________________

What if their is still a portrait of Regulus Black in Grimauld place, but the JK said that Portraits are like a imprint of a persons personality but not all of the things they knew or know. Also we found out why somepeople become ghosts and others don't all the way back in OotP.

in CoS colin creevy said that they need to put photos in a potion to make them move. maybe they have a stronger potion for the portraits to talk. _________________

My guess is there is a stronger spell or something on those portraits, probably advanced magic. And if someone at the Prophet knew the spell, it would take forever to put it on ever paper.

no, jkr said that the magic in the portraits are actually an imprint of the departed wizard. its not a spell or a potion. only the photographs use a potion. _________________
