Yep! I hope there not changing it back to PG! I'll make sure not to go to the early showings though..mom's will still bring there kids because after all the other ones weren't that scary Rolling Eyes

anyways, what do ya'll think of this?

I think its a good idea but we must remember its a children's book...I think that GOF requires that rating for all the events to translate well on film.

Well I just learned it might use the f-word. Oh and parents will still let them see it..i hope it scars the kids...parents fault!

It may be a children's book, per se, but book 4 is written at the level of about a 13 year old and contains graphic violence. The pg-13 rating is appropriate and canon.

Harry Potter isnt so much just aimed at little kids anymore, each books gets a little darker. I'm glad they stuck it on there.

GOF's PG-13 rating justified

Today, an article published by USA Today discusses the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's PG-13 rating in the United States. After a viewing of the film, they offer explanations as to why it was given this rating: "Scenes that may be of concern to parents include creepy spiders crawling on schoolchildren, fire-breathing dragons, monstrous mermaids, a character nearly suffocated by vines and a near-drowning. The film also contains mild profanity, sexual innuendo and the death of a main character."

On this topic, director Mike Newell said: "Audiences that began with No. 1 and are now 14, 15, 16 years old will kind of want to know you are not infantilizing the situation. These are not children's books; these are adult stories."

When my 13 year old heard of the PG-13 rating she was all concerned that I wouldn't let her see it. She can sit through all the Jurasic Park movies and they scare the bageezes out of me Exclamation

I think she can handle dragons and mild profanity. Someone younger, maybe not. It depends on the kid.

I don’t think the rating really matters. When you think about its all the younger kids that want to a lot of violence and blood.

I’ve seen kids from 7-10 watch shows like Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (which has 17+ violence, death of main characters and a lot of other mature content but none of them seemed bothered by any of it, they thought all the killing was cool, except for the ending…

I think the rating is just a warning for the parents. I'm sure lots of kids have seen people dying in movies and on T.V.
I don't think fire-breathing dragons are that scary, and considering that we see them during a tournament, and in broad daylight, it won't really affect kids. The mermaids aren't monstrous, they're just ugly. There's not much violence except at the climax, when Harry and Voldemort duel. That's probably the only scary part. But I agree, it depends on the age. Very young children, like 5-6 yrs old probably shouldn't see it.

Can you imagine my chagrin, when my child's 3rd grade teacher stopped reading the COS book in class because she was worried how the kids would react to the large spider and the Basilisk. Rolling Eyes
