did jkr confirm that or is it just a wild theory?

well i believe that grindelwald is dead so there is no way that he will suddenly come alive and do whatever monstrosities.

i think that it will have to do with dumbledore's past.
remember, dumbledore defeated grindelwald.
and jkr said (i think) that we will see more of dumbledore's past and why he is taking an active stance in the eradication of dark wizards.
perhaps the story of grindelwald will then come in.

It's hard to imagine him playing a role in the story.

He's a dead dark wizard, likely meant to imply that WW2 had an effect on The Wizarding world as well....I hardly see him as a plot point.

I think Dumbledore killed Grindewald, and that's what he was referring to in the lake in the cave.

he wouldn't have made a horcrux...for one he wasn't even sure what it was...hence the want of slughorns memory..and plus he would have had to do an incantation to actually make the horcrux itself...murder only splits the soul...its taking that part of your soul and putting in something else that makes a horcrux

well, maybe he didnt kill grindelwald, just defeated him. there are many ways of defeating a person without resorting to the avada...

and DD does often say that are worse things than death.

i think that voldie learnt stuff from grindewald, or atleast, considered him as a mentor, or as an example. i think this is his role
