WB Prez' Statement to Fans: Move 'Never Intended to Upset our Harry Potter Fans'
Posted by: Melissa Anelli
August 19, 2008, 08:13 PM

Alan Horn, the president and chief operating officer of Warner Bros., has issued another statement about the move of the Half-Blood Prince movie to July 2009; in this statement he addresses the fans directly (as far as we know, this statement has only been sent to fan sites) and says that the decision to move the film was “not taken lightly” and “never intended to upset Harry Potter fans.” He also says, “We know you have built this series into what it is.”

The full text is below:

Quote:
‘Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability. The decision to move “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support. If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between “Half-Blood Prince” and the much-anticipated first part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which opens in November 2010. So although we have to wait a little longer for “Half-Blood Prince,” the wait from that film until “Deathly Hallows” will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.’

its true its the same amount of wait between movies and it would have been for DH1...but the difference is we were well aware of that wait...this time they dangle a shiny ribbon in front of us, getting us all excited, and then pull it away. Also, we would hope the longer wait would mean a better more indepth movie...that is not the case of HBP. it will be the same thing in July that we should have seen in November.

Yeah... until he pushes back the date of Deathly Hallows, too. Rolling Eyes

lol yeah my mom said today "at least the wait for Deathly Hallows won't be so long" and I said what you said Ginny lol. because apparently they don't make enough money in the fall, so why would they release part 1 then? I hope I'm just being paranoid/bitter though. PLEASE DON'T DO IT.

Yeah exactly. And I wouldn't have been so angry if, like Arabella said, they get us all excited and pumped up for it in November, then took our "shiny" away from us!!!! Its almost like the are just doing this so they can get attention or something. =/

It is just like taking candy from a baby, only WORSE! XP

I know, i too love my shiny. But they expect us to wait forever and ever since we are fans, eventually I at least will just give up on the films,

You know, I'm not as disappointed as I should be. I mean I was a little excited about this film, but WB has pretty much sucked all of the joy out of the Potter films by now. This is just one more disappointment to add to the already huge pile of disappoinements.

How is that good news, we still have to wait just as long for Deathly Hallows part 1, assuming that doesn't get pushed back aswell, and even longer for Half Blood Prince!

Wouldn't that be nuts if like July 10th next year they announce it won't come out til November 21st of next year.

Evil or Very Mad

No, my expression would be worse than that.

you would think that with all the summer blockbusters, they would siphon some tickets away from HP. guess not.

"we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based" ??? Shocked

bah, not really... there are a lot of really good scenes from the book that aren't shown in the films. Rolling Eyes
and november 2008 is really good for me since it's near my bday and july for me is the worst since a lot of good films to watch will come out during those times. well, at least waiting for DH 1 after HBP is shorter. Wink

It is highly likely that when they push it back, and it is released, the will push HBP back and same with the two DH movies.Warner Brothers is the best movie making company, but unfortionatly, they want more money, I doubt they will get anymore than they would've anyway.
