i want to write my first fan-fic but can't think of a good harry potter storyline.
i've tried writing a harry potter short story before but it wasn't very good. 
can anyone suggest a good Potter related story??

I want people to give me a good idea at a storyline for me to write a Potter-related fan-fic.

I'd like to read a good Ron and Hermione romance story. I mean, it took them forever to finally kiss in the HP series, it'd be nice to see how their relationship warms over the next few years after the final battle at Hogwarts.
Oh, and thanks for the compliment on my fan fic "I Will." Glad you like it PK2007. You're "Teddy's Girl" is really awesome, too.

Get some genre.... Comedy? Angst? Romance? Once you got it, get the type of couple you want. Ron/Herm, Harry/Ginny or make it somewhat different like Draco/Luna, Severus/Herm...
Once thaaaat is doneee.... Get a plot. Like, Snape/Herm... in my case, my story has Severus Snape losing his memory and Hermione has to find a cure for him. Or make it non related like Hide and Seek. You can read some of the fanfics here and get a head start. I Will, Teddy's Girl... so and so.

That's true too. I also get a lot of ideas from listening to lyrics of songs.

The song that inspired Part 1 of "I Will" was Into the Night by Santana. Other songs have helped me write and plan the other parts of my story, including New Day by Celine Dion, Silent World by Donna Lewis, and Not My Time by I think, 3 Dog Down or something like that. Sorry if I butchered their group's name.
