IF he hadn't, then his life after Harry defeated Voldemort (we allkow it would have happened somehow) wouldn't have even been worth living.

Snape did it for Lily, he loves her with all his heart, the old teased schoolboy is remembered and Harry even knows his loyalty. Mentioned in 19 Years Later, "Severus. Albus. Both were great wizards"

I don't think Snape's loyalty was to Dumbledore, Harry, Hogwarts or Voldemort. He was only looking out for his best interest & that was Lily, he didn't care about James or Harry.

He turned to Dumbledore only out of deperation because he knew that once he told the portion of the proficy that he heard that the Potters were marked for death and that Dumbledore was the only one who could possilby stop Voldemort.

That is true in one way, but because of Lily, Snape never went way far to the dark-side. I believe he was loyal to Dumbledore; no one else.

And yes, it was worth him dying because how could you honestly live after all that?

Yeah, he didn't care for Harry all to much but I do think he was loyal to Dumbledore because
Spoiler:

he gave him his memories so Harry would know and understand the full meaning behind why Snape killed DD, what he, Harry, had to do in the end when he confronted Voldy, and blah blah blah other stuff relating to Snape's memories such as his love for Harry's mother and the Doe that led them to the sword, etc.

But I don't know, he must've liked Harry a bit to let him know such personal things not relating to the Order or DD.

It was worth it. But even though he was loyal to Dumbledore hes not really good, he does everything for his own gain. He only asks Voldermort to let Lily live so he can be with her, not caring what she wants. Then he protects Harry to try and get over the grief and guilt of Lily's death. But i guess u gotta feel sorry for him seein as he'll never be happy, whatever he does, and he did do the right thing in the end

Snape is loyal to anyone who promises to give him what he wants.

He was loyal to the Dark Lord when he thought Lily was to be spared.

Then he chose to be loyal to Dumbledore because he wants to protect Lily's son.

All Snape ever wanted was to be with Lily Crying

Severus loved Lilly.
Lilly married James.
Snape tried to save Lilly.
Every time he saw harry was a reminder of (in Snapes mind) the reason Lilly was dead. James.
Snape WAS faithful to Dumbledore. Didn't you read the book? He refused to kill Dumbledore. I'm sure Snape did like Harry a little. He was Lillys son.

Severus cared for Harry in the way that he was Lily's son. He did not like him at all; in fact, he actually hated him, despised him because he reminded of him of James. Snape however never wanted Harry dead, since this way he would feel that he would kill Lily twice. I am sure Snape saw it in his mind that it was his own fault that Lily died, thus felt guilty towards the woman he loved - but he in no way in hell liked Harry, and that I think is clearly seen in the books. Razz

His devotion to Dumbledore was as far as Lily would go. He knew Dumbledore was the only man that could counter Voldemort's tricks efficiently, thus trusted him only because he could save the Potters. In the third book, in the chapter where the Gryffindors are sleeping in the Great Hall, Snape "looks at Dumbledore with a glance of dislike" or whatever. It is a mix of Dumbledore hiring Remus Lupin and the fact that, no offence, Snape always blames others for his mistakes - he probably saw it was that Dumbledore broke some kind of vow since he couldn't protect Lily. In his eyes, the exterior, it's everyone's fault but his. It is Dumbledore's, Pettigrew's, Voldemort's, James', but he is innocent. xD

Although I know he's a clever man and he deep inside knows who is the real man that brought all this in.

I think snape was loyal to dumbledore because of lily. he loved her very much, and dumbledore was the only one he could face after voldy killed her. after all, dumbledore was probably the only one who could understand what he was going through. its so sad when he died *sniff* Crying

Snape is absolutely my favorite character! I love him! He really turned out to be a hero, he just had a hard life. I simply love the way Rowling writes abouyt him. It`s so much fun to read!
