Well, as it so happens, we were talking about Burma/Myanmar in our Current World Events class. My teacher said that the western countries didn't want to call it Myanmar because then it would look like we're supporting the communism in Burma. So everyone calls it Burma except for the Asian countries who cooperate with Myanmar.

So, i was wondering if you guys had noticed that General Ne Win (dictator of Burma/Myanmar) had already changed the name of Burma at the time of the making and writing of this movie, yet Harry asked the snake if he was from Burma. Did you notice it? I thought about it in class the other day. Do you think that was the reason why? Or was it just some fluke?

That is weird....

And I checked the book and JKR has him saying Brazil, so the film makers made a change there. Weird, I would love to know why.

haha, I did the same thing. I just didn't post it. I ws thinking that I thought it was Brazil, anyway, when I first read this post. I never actually realized that the movie said Burma until Juli mentioned it. She also explained this situation to me, and I kind of think that they changed it on purpose. I mean, of all places to choose to have that snake come from, and the chose one of the most politically problematic places they could have.
