Quote:
The Italian edition of Vanity Fair said that it had found George Hussein Onyango Obama living in a hut in a ramshackle town of Huruma on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate's half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his life, which could not be more different than that of the Democratic contender.

"No-one knows who I am," he told the magazine, before claiming: "I live here on less than a dollar a month."

According to Italy's Vanity Fair his two metre by three metre shack is decorated with football posters of the Italian football giants AC Milan and Inter, as well as a calendar showing exotic beaches of the world.

Vanity Fair also noted that he had a front page newspaper picture of his famous brother - born of the same father as him, Barack Hussein Obama, but to a different mother, named only as Jael.

He told the magazine: "I live like a recluse, no-one knows I exist."

Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation.

"If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed," he said.

For ten years George Obama lived rough. However he now hopes to try to sort his life out by starting a course at a local technical college.

He has only met his famous older brother twice - once when he was just five and the last time in 2006 when Senator Obama was on a tour of East Africa and visited Nairobi.

The Illinois senator mentions his brother in his autobiography, describing him in just one passing paragraph as a "beautiful boy with a rounded head".

Of their second meeting, George Obama said: "It was very brief, we spoke for just a few minutes. It was like meeting a complete stranger."

George added he was no longer in contact with his mother and said:"I have had to learn to live and take what I need.

"Huruma is a tough place, last January during the elections there was rioting and six people were hacked to death. The police don't even arrest you they just shoot you.

"I have seen two of my friends killed. I have scars from defending myself with my fists. I am good with my fists."

okay... if you were even a fraction of as rich as Mr. Barak Obama, would you have not at LEAST sent money for your brother to live on. 500 bucks would have gone a long way. Barak Obama is a multi multi millionaire... how is it, that this man can go day by day spending his money on pointless stuff, knowing he has brother living in poverty? how can he live with himself knowing his brother lives off of one dollar a MONTH!

I think this is true look into Baraks character. messaih-fied or not, it is obvious and undenying on who Barak is. the other things that have been brought out into the light, you guys have shrugged off, but if you guys shrug this off then that is just ridiculous. that just means you guys just want your party to win so bad that you dont care who you are putting in office.

do you want someone so unthoughtful about his own KIN to be in office? i sure hope the hell not!

EDIT: Also can you imagine if they found a poor poverty stricken Juan McCain in Louisiana or sumthin? We would have more coverage on that than the olympics!

So what? How does this have anything to do with his ability to lead the country? He's running for President, not for Decent Family Member.

well people are saying that because McCain left his first wife, he is unfit for leading a country. I think that leaving your own brother is way worse, also, it shows what a money loving cold hearted person he is. He is greedy and thats that. Plus he says how he is going to change the economy and make the poor people unpoor. with the knowledge that he doesnt send a dime to his own brother, makes me think, well duh, he aint gonna do it for the people of the US.

Well, as I fully agree with you, it does kind of matter because how would he look to American families if he can't treat his own with dignity and respect? But I do agree with you, nonetheless.

How can he expect to take care of the country if he can't even take care of his own brother (whom he visited a couple years ago, saw the condition he's in, and did nothing).

Cmon now. Something is wrong with that. Obama has millions, and he can't spare a few thousand to either bring his brother to America or help support himself in Kenya? He's had years to do this, by the way.

I would totally back up Potter.

Potter/Weasley in 2008!

They would do a much better job than any of the candidates.

theres a HUGE difference between HALF-brother and just brother. i dont see why Barack should have to pay for his brothers troubles. Plus he is trying to be the most powerfull man in the world. He has many other things on his mind than his half blood brother.

weak excuse to justify his actions. he has millions and the average person would use a bit of that money to help out a family member if they were living like that. yes hes trying to become the most powerful person in the world *cough* but youd think if you were doing that you would help out your brother, half or not, if you knew how they were living. he knew for two years, before he was even running for prez. so the excuse hes just too busy isnt not true. sure he is a senator, but theres a prob with being busy even as a senator, he hardly went to the meetings. also how hard is it to send money? takes what a few secs really! Barack just doesnt care, and there is no way getting around that.

The CNN article I read about his half brother said that his brother didn't really want any help - but even that is a poor excuse for not offering, or at least giving a gift or something. They're a lot alike in many ways, but the way I see it is Obama pretty much wants to separate himself from his past. Yea, he's gone back and visited some of his family - to include in a book. He's made no other actions trying to reconnect with his family. In a way, I think he's ashamed of them.

Technically, he doesn't really cover it up, he just doesn't offer the information. No one asked him if he has any poor half-brothers in desperate need of money. If he was covering it up, he would have lied and said no and tried to literally hide his brother.

And that's what I'm saying... he hasn't covered anything up. He isn't hiding anything, he just isn't offering the information. And instead of people (interviewers, press, etc) asking him about himself, they are just going out and looking for themselves. They act all proud of themselves when they "uncover" something. But it isn't as if he was hiding any of it to begin with.

believe me he will try to cover up why he never did anything for his brothers. just like when he claims he didnt say something or do something in the past.

if he tries to cover it up, then I will understand what you mean. Until then, you are just assuming what he will do based on absolutely nothing.
