Okay I know that because Harry is the boy who live he can be the only one that can defeat Lord Voldemort. But it seems in the books that no one can hurt him... except Dumbledore... why is that? James and Lily were exceptional wizards, yet neither one of them could stand up against him when he was alone trying to kill Harry. With James it seemed that it was like "Hi." boom "Bye." like he didnt evn really try. I think that James could have at least done some damage and held him off. I am not sure if i got this idea from PoA and from Harry's memories but even in the book it always seemed this way for me.
Hell even Mad Eye could have put up a decent fight and left Voldemort with a few scratches before get himself owned. I know the wizarding world is small, but I am sure there are wizards somewhere that are experienced like Dumbledore and could bring Voldemort down. This world is large and Harry is just the boy-who-lived. If people were to band together they could take out the deatheaters then take on Voldemort himself. Honestly he cant take on a hundred wizards, even he would be screwed.
Guess what I am trying to say is, why can't anyone else oppose him? Does he have some type of magical barrier that stops from anyone from hurting/killing him unless its Harry? Even though I am a Harry Potter fan, I have always found this about Lord V a little dare I say it, lame.
1. an entire battalion of aurors cant find him, coz he has made himself unplottable (jk said that even people can make themselves unplottable)
2. he's got death eaters to protect him and warn him if someone is coming.
3. even if an entire batallion surrounded him, he can do legilimency and thus will be able to block their spells, like what snape did to harry in "the lfight of the prince"
4. even if they killed him, hello! he's got horcruxes! cant die!
but the fourth level of protection has never been reached. only the first, second and third, maybe. i think the unplottable-ness of voldie is impt. remember what hermione said? voldie cant come storming into the ministry because he is one of the most wanted criminals in the world. this means that voldie wouldnt want to face a hundred aurors. and even jk said that why do you think can voldie escape the aurors? its because he has made himself unplottable.
hope that answers the question. _________________

As crank088 said, he didn't have his wand on him when Voldemort stormed into the house.
Voldemort was a powerful wizard, no one was a mtch for him except for the equally powerful (or more powerful?) Dumbledore. Personally, I wonder if Voldemort feared DD eacuse he knew that DD knew his weaknesses, like death and his inability to love.
Anyway, as hbp mentioned, Voldemort had all sorts of protection around him, including his faithful Death Eaters. They made mention at one point that they weren't prepared for Voldemort the first time around, but this time, beacuse Harry lived to warn them in GoF, DD was able to contact the Order sooner and round up more people faster.
Voldemort was a highly skilled wizard, able to do awful damage at even a young age. Not many people were able to, or even wiling to, stand up to him. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre
They did make it seem like Voldemort was a tank. I always use to think nobody could face him except Harry but, of course, I was wrong. Like everyone else in this thread said, he made it almost impossible for him to be killed. _________________ Join Reality Of It All!!!
