I wonder what happened when hermione accidently passed the secret of 12 Grimmauld place to Yaxley when the trio disapparated from the MoM. it also makes me wonder what happened to Kreacher in those months between September 2nd and the final battle, when the trio didnt return did he just go back to hogwarts or did he have to escape from the DE's who would undoubtedly be pouring into grimmauld place? _________________ Member #3 of the "David Yates has no direction for the Potter films and should therefore be stoned" club!
we see kreacher again at the final battle with other house elves, so he either escaped or the DEs thought he was of no use and sent him to hogwarts's kitchens or they tortured him for info but after not getting any sent him to the kitchens
but im guessing grimmauld place was turned upside down by DE's searching for clues about harry or the order _________________
You are up there!
Once Hermione showed Yaxley the place by accident, he became a secret keeper. And something tells me, he's not a very good secret keeper, lol. He probably ran straight back to the ministry to tell them the location. I'm guessing the ministry turned that place inside out looking for him.
I think Kreacher did one of two things... he was either tortured for information... or hid. Either way... we know he managed to make it to Hogwrts for the final battle. My guess? I think as soon as he could, he went to Hogwarts in search of a safe place. I thin he knew, once there, he'd find other house elves that he knew, including Dobby who he had previously been rude to. If anything, it was a safer place to stay than Grimmauld Place where there were most likely Ministry officials and Death Eaters roaming around. Harry never told him to stay put, so it wouldn't be breaking any rules to leave. And as his house-elf, his role was to protect Harry. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on it. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre

He didn't become Secret Keeper, only those who knew the address before Dumbledore's death became Secret Keepers. When one of them gives the address to someone else, he can get in but can't pass it on.
Yaxley would be able to bring people in by side-along Apparition, but whoever he brought in still wouldn't be able to get in by himself. _________________ "I can make things move without touching them. I can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me." -- Tom Riddle (HBP movie).

He might not have been an official secret keeper, but he'd still be able to bring people there, is my point.

(SPOILER WARNING)
What happens to a secret when the Secret-Keeper dies?
I was surprised that this question won, because it is not the one that I'd have voted for… but hey, if this is what you want to know, this is what you want to know!
When a Secret-Keeper dies, their secret dies with them, or, to put it another way, the status of their secret will remain as it was at the moment of their death. Everybody in whom they confided will continue to know the hidden information, but nobody else.
Just in case you have forgotten exactly how the Fidelius Charm works, it is
"an immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single, living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper, and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless, of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it" (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)
In other words, a secret (eg, the location of a family in hiding, like the Potters) is enchanted so that it is protected by a single Keeper (in our example, Peter Pettigrew, a.k.a. Wormtail). Thenceforth nobody else – not even the subjects of the secret themselves – can divulge the secret. Even if one of the Potters had been captured, force fed Veritaserum or placed under the Imperius Curse, they would not have been able to give away the whereabouts of the other two. The only people who ever knew their precise location were those whom Wormtail had told directly, but none of them would have been able to pass on the information.
I think the DE's stayed with Kreacher and monitored him in case of apparation, and tried to get info from him.
Obviously somewhat futile... because Kreacher was there in the end, and from the time of the apparation slip up to the final battle... nothing huge was compromised from Kreacher's end. _________________
