Just a thread to talk about any software what so ever.
Discuss it, what it is, what is your favorite type of it such as anti-virus, or even operating systems.
This is a general discussion.

pff, all tech experts recommend that you use less or no anti-virus software, it creates more hassle, and are useless when is needed. Just try to update your Windows Security and Network updates. sorry gotta go bye

Are you honestly hearing from REAL Geeks/technologists?

The only time no anti-virus is recommended is if you know exactly what not to download and what to not do.
The three golden rules to prevent all malicious material.
#1: Do not look up any porn
#2: Do not download any peer to peer content.
#3: Do not download anything you do NOT need.
Not very many people can do this, hence for an anti-virus also I use one just to be safe. These rules only protect you from 99%
NOTE: 1% is still thousands of threats.

Have you even been attacked by all the threat categories yet?
I think not.

The three golden rules to prevent all malicious material.
#1: Do not look up any porn - as if you didn't Razz
#2: Do not download any peer to peer content. - why would anyone do that ?? Confused
#3: Do not download anything you do NOT need. - its common sense

and there are more ways a virus might infect you pc, using a second hand CD from someone else, opening unknown attached mails. downloading free anti-virus software(yes they indeed have viruses in there), and last of all key genrators(they are dangerous).

All this is also common sense. Do not forget, many people look up porn, use limewire, and sadly download "shit" ware. There are few people who know all the ways to prevent these things, its life.

Is the connection you are attempting to use on the wifi that is not working a secure connection? Do you have a good enough Internet card to connect to wifi?
Maybe the signal is to weak.
Many different scenarios for why a wifi connection is not working yet it will somewhere else.

I'm using the antivirus software that my college offers. It's called eTrust I think. I got no problems with it yet.

Avira would have to be the best free solution.
Kaspersky and Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus would have to be the best paid protection.

Norton (Symantec), MacAfee, and Trend Micro all SUCK.

I had a Nastry Trojan Worm on my laptop, AVG and Norton wouldn't even detect it....... I used spybot to get rid of it....
