we know LV turned the certian things into horcruxes by putting a piece of his soul into them, thus making him immortal. That is why when his curse rebounded upon him, he was able to survive.
I assumed though, that when the piece of soul in the body was destroyed, a piece from a horcrux would take its place. If that is the case, then why when LV first lost his powers did he not lose any pieces of his soul?

That's not how a horcrux works. If that were the case, then Voldemort would have "used" one of his horcruxes when the AK curse rebounded on him when Harry was a baby. As it is, all of his horcruxes were still intact. What a horcrux does is tether soul that remained to the body to life . . . I suppose there isn't really a better word to use than life. Maybe existence is a better term. I think we may already have thread like this, though.
