So you know how people who have seen someone die can see the thestrals well why did it take till book five for Harry to see them? Didn't he see his mother die?

no, he did see Cedric die in Goblet of fire.

I kno this but why couldn't he see them before Cedric died. Didn't he see his mum die when he was a baby

It didn't say that he couldn't see them. i think those segments were written from Hermione's pov.
