ok, remember the time harry broke in snape's office coz he saw crouch's name? well that was crouch jr, right? and then snape came to investigate. mad eye came to look as well. then snape spotted the marauder's map. didnt snape notice that the name of the man beside him was not "Alastor Moody" but "Bartemius Crouch"? i mean, crouch was just right beside him, not in some far-off place... so he would have noticed... wouldnt he?
is that a mistake or something? _________________

| If you mean the scene in which Harry forgot the broken step and is dangling in midair while Moody, Snape and Filch are investigating, then Snape never got hold of the Marauder's Map. Moody used Accio before Snape could get a hand on it. |

That's a good question. Snape must've seen Bartemius Crouch on the map.... _________________

Alright, I have my book...
When Harry slipped through the missing step, the map flew six steps below him... As Snape walks away Moody brings the piece of parchment to his attention. Snape reaches down to grab it, but Fake!Moody notices Harry motioning to him and summons it. Snape was not able to reach the map in time.
The reason Snape didn't notice Barty's name on it was because he wasn't given a chance to look at it. The map has halls, stairs, rooms, tiny dots with tiny labels on them, etc.... When the map fell down the stairs, I doubt it fell upright and face up with just the right spot that Snape was standing in at the moment. _________________

Nope, he is reaching down for it, when Moody accios it...
GoF ch 25, pg 472 (US ed)
Snape had reached out for it, a horrible expression of dawning comprehension on his face -
"Accio Parchement!"
The map flew up into the air, slipped through Snape's outstretched fingers, and soared down the stairs into Moody's hand. _________________

Yup. He recognized it as the parchment he saw Harry with. _________________

Well, now I re-read it, I know that Snape never got to touch it. I thought he read it too. _________________
