You need a decent graphics program, I use Paint Shop Pro X, there's also GIMP and Photoshop.

You can do the tutorial videos on YouTube, but I suggest you do something that doesn't confuse you and actually makes you remember.
...and if you don't want to download programs like all of the ones Yasmine has mentioned, you can get a simple image, open it with Paint, spread the picture out and give the same colour to that added piece and save it and got to picnik.com and upload a photo.
Its free, and theres a better version, but that pays, so I suggest you use picnik.com to make free graphics.
