do you think that voldemort could have ended up more like harry potter (in the way of being a powerful wizard who choses to do good, rather than evil) if his childhood had been different? or was he just destined to be the most dangerous wizard the world had ever seen?
i'm curious to hear some opinions here. so let me know what you think!
i'm sure if his dad had been more involved in his life he wouldn't have hated muggles. _________________ how tough am i? well, i'll have you know i stubbed my toe last week (while watering my spice garden), and i only cried for 20 minutes!
Well I believe the way he was treated when he was young was one of the main impacts of him turning evil I guess you could say.
He realized that there isn't good or evil, that there is only power. And for one to seek power makes one powerful. And that was one of the reason's why Voldemort was Powerful/Evil. Evil is power.
At the orphanage he didnt know better, he would always pick on ones younger than him. He is what we would call a bully and he didnt know better. That was how he was raised, take what you want when you want. And thats what he did.
So I think Voldemort would always be Evil no matter what. He is purely Evil, I could never see Tom Riddle has a good guy I suppose you could say.
But thats my theory. _________________ | Created by raXike |
The way he was treated had zero impact on how he turned out. He was raised in an orphange with other children. N one of the other children grew up to b e psychopaths. What made him different was how we was conceived...
Ravleen: How much does the fact that voldemort was conceived under a love potion have to do with his nonability to understand love is it more symbolic
J.K. Rowling: It was a symbolic way of showing that he came from a loveless union – but of course, everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him.
J.K. Rowling: The enchantment under which Tom Riddle fathered Voldemort is important because it shows coercion, and there can’t be many more prejudicial ways to enter the world than as the result of such a union.

Unknown (2): And if any other characters might redeem themselves?
J.K. Rowling: Well, I believe that almost anyone can redeem themselves... However, in some cases, as we know from reality -- if a psychologist were ever able to get Voldemort in a room, pin him down and take his wand away, I think he would be classified as a psychopath (crowd laughs). So there are people, for whom, whatever you're going to callit -- personality disorder or an illness -- for whom redemption is not possible. They're rare.

I bet more than one children were born under the effects of a love potion. Does this mean all of them would turn to Voldemorts, though? :S
I still it has to do with both. The love potion thing merely might show his inability to love, while the small Orphanage might have inspired him in a desperate need to get out. I guess he and Harry ARE very similar. Harry just was the one being bullied. Both of them seem to have rather bad childhoods. _________________ Fact 1: Moody rocks your socks. And mine too.
Fact 2: Ron rocks everyone's socks. Except Dobby's.
Fact 3: Harry and Hermione are not meant to be together. :'< Stop the myth-spreading.
Fact 4: Snape > James.
Fact 5: Grindelwald > Voldemort.
also, tom riddle's mom didn't exactly have a nice set of genes. that might have added to the instability _________________ how tough am i? well, i'll have you know i stubbed my toe last week (while watering my spice garden), and i only cried for 20 minutes!
As in real life, I think it's a combination of genetics and upbringing. He and Harry both had difficult childhoods. You can't say that Tom Riddle became evil because of his upbringing, I think he had it better than Harry did. Everyone Harry lived with openly hated him. The people in the orphanage at least tried to care for Tom Riddle. Anyway, the way a person turns out is alway a combination of how they were raised and the person they were born. Personality handed down through genetics has a lot to do with how you handle the hand you were dealt. _________________ "Enter, stranger, but take heed
