We did get quite a bit of it in the last book. She didn't state everything explicitly, but I got the impression that he didn't have a very good home-life and that Lily was his only true friend. We don't hear much about that gang of Slytherins he ran around with, but I doubt they were any more than a clique - not actual friends.

Yeah, I think Snape just hung around with them just to be associated with their popularity. Its always been in Snape's best interests to only look out for himself. I think Lily was his only friend. I feel sorry for him....he never had any friends, and his parents probably never supported him because they were fighting the whole time...he had no one to turn to.

No.
The taste that we did get of Snape's history was incredibly depressing; anything more and I wouldn't even be able to read the last half of DH.

I really do love Severus.

I would have loved to read more about Snapes history, but I would probably ruin the book with my tears, because he didn't have a good home life and if any one deserves to have a happy ending he does but he didn't get it. Just goes to show that lifes not fair.

I think I would cry, too. But I would love to know more anyway.

I agree on that.

I think JKR gave us enough of a taste of his past for us to get the idea, I think if she went more into it it would have been a little too much, it's Harrys story, not Snapes (ooh a spin off might be pretty fun). I personaly really liked Snapes story , though it was very sad. And I agree that the slytherins probably were't real friends to Snape, probably more like Crabe and Goyle were with Malfoy.

If you want even more, like his homelife, the she should right a whole another book about Snape because he is too much of a complex character. But honestly I think she wrote everything we need to know. About his obsession with dark arts and loving Lily and "coming clean". More would be too boring.

His homelife wouldn't be all too boring; it would be heart-wrenching. He had an abusive, alcoholic father and his mother was a bit of a weak witch. To be honest, I'd like to know more about her (Snape's mother). Who her family is/was consisted of, since she's pure-blood, she has to be related to the Blacks, the Weasleys, the Prewetts, the Malfoys and the Lestranges in some way or another.

But creating another book about him would be unnecessary, get all the information you want from Jo's interviews and the the Harry Potter Lexicon.

It would be cool if she wrote a series about Snape's childhood.

I have to agree with you. I didn't like Snape in the first few books but then again I was a kid and all kids hate the baddy but now just after re-reading DH for the 4th time I really admire his character. Imo he's the true hero of the book. I don't think we necessarily needed more info on his history, we get the impression that his home life was pretty rubbish and that Lily was his only true friend which he lost by his own doing. As you say anymore and I would have been deeeee-pressed!

Same here. I just want to know a bit more about how he lived when he was a grow up... Like that scene when Cissy and Bella visit him.

Snape is a really sad Character, just like Bellatrix. They're both really more than what hides behind the toughness, and Snape is a. Meh. Well. A...

A really brave character that makes me, reading the Prince's Tale chapter, wish he had a better life for him.

P.S: James Potter sucks. Razz

I'm kind of glad James and Lily got together and made our dear hero Harry, but I think it REALLY should've been Snape/Lily.

Well... sometimes it's better if we're left with the "what if" in hand. What if Lily had forgiven Severus? If they got together, it might have ruined the magic of the thought, y'know? Just like too much romance in a book would make it silly. Wink
