ok in the books it sais that harry couldnt see the thestrals until book 5...since thestrals are creatures that you can only see when you have seen death, harry should have been able to see them since his first year at hogwarts because he saw his parents death and not to mention he saw professor quirrel die also... what do you think?

He didn't know that Quirell was dead, until Dumbledore told him. And when his parents died, he was to young to understand. The death of Sirius was just the first real death (of someone he cared about) that he witnessed.

well just becuase he didnt understand his parents death doesnt mean he didnt see them....it doesnt matter if you dont understand....as long as u see soemoen die u can see thestrals....who do u think neville saw die? couldnt have been his parents because they werent killed

I think that Harry couldn't see the Thestrals in his first year because he was too young to understand his parent's deaths. And, for another thing, in the film Quirrell dies, but in the actual first book Quirrell does not die.
