Yeah what love_like_winter said is pretty much right.

To get a job you go round places and give a cv out with has like previous jobs and qualifications on it.
They see them and decide on that.
But its only really specialised jobs that need GCSEs and A Levels and they effect the colleges and universities you can get into.

I mean, I dont see how anyone can pass maths. It sucks.
When am I ever gonna need pythagoras' theroem again?
