Author’s Note: Not really much to say. I’m starting a Harry Potter fan fiction. It’s not my first one, however. I had done one a few years back, but it has since been lost from numerous computer crashes. Hopefully now my writing has improved a bit. Well, here I go. Oh, and before I forget this story of mine begins in the second year of the series. There is quite a good reason why I skip the first year, which will be found out later as the stories progresses.

Title: Draco Malfoy and the Dragon Guardian

Rating: PG/PG-13, for violence and mild language

Summary: Harry Potter isn’t the only with problems in his life. His arch rival, Draco Malfoy, also appears to have a great destiny as much as the Boy Who Lived. But, what is his destiny? No one is quite sure, but soon a great Guardian is asked to help, a truly rare being. However, is she foe or friend? One thing is for sure, her presence will change everything, and everyone is hopeful it’s for the better.

Chapter One: The Planning of the Professors

Professor Dumbledore stood in his office looking upon his pet Phoenix Fawkes. Many things were racing in the powerful wizard’s mind. It was soon to be time for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to reopen. And which some of the most endearing students to return to the school. Dumbledore moved slightly to stare out into the castle grounds from his window.

Harry Potter was of course one of those students. However, there was one more that interested the wizened old wizard. Draco Malfoy, son to Lucius Malfoy, also had a great destiny. But, even Dumbledore could not pinpoint what that fate might be. Of course, he knew the boy was special. Dumbledore had often thought it odd that Lucius would chose the name Draco for his son. Not many used that name, and those that did were usually of good up bringing.

The last known being to ever use that name was in actual truth, a dragon. In a way it was quite humorous, a dragon being named dragon in another language. But, it seemed to fit, and the name was used to bring forth good fortune and good faith ever since.

Whatever the circumstances now, Dumbledore knew only one thing. The young Malfoy needed some protection. A Guardian, one who would look after the boy no matter what. Dumbledore had first considered Professor Snape, for he had a good relationship with Draco. However, the Headmaster realized the Potions Master had other things to worry about and could not always keep an eye out on the boy.

So there was only one choice. To find someone who could pretend or really be a student and guard Draco Malfoy from any wrong doing.

Suddenly there was a gentle knock on the door and Dumbledore turned to the sound.

“Enter.”

Professor McGonagall walked into the room with an air of determination. She walked up to Dumbledore with almost a glint in her eye. “We have found her.” She spoke in a quiet whisper, even through they were the only two in the room.

“Good. And has she agreed?”

“Yes, but she was a little worried about the Houses though. After all, if she doesn’t get sorted into Slytherin, what would even be the point of all of this?” She spoke a bit louder and faster. McGonagall wanted to get her view of things across to the Headmaster.
“I am quite aware of that Minerva, but I believe our Guardian will be sorted into the House she so chooses. And that is the case, she will be in Slytherin.”

“I don’t see why. She is noble and brave, she is everything her ancestors were before her. She could as easily be in Gryffindor and you know that.”

Professor Dumbledore now turned to McGonagall. He looked at her for a brief moment and than spoke, “That is true. However, we both know that Gryffindor and Slytherin are in reality not that different from one another. Perhaps, she will change the view of Slytherin in being here. But, regardless of that, she will be in Slytherin and I know that. She knows her job and she will do anything to protect the young Mr.Malfoy.”

Professor McGonagall nodded in agreement. She turned to leave, than stopped midway to ask one more question.

“Will she still be started in this school as a second year?”

Dumbledore tilted in his head in a nod, “Yes, she has shown great understanding in magic. I believe she doesn’t need to start out as a first year. All the more better. She can be in Mr.Malfoy’s year.”

The Head of Gryffindor nodded in agreement the second time and then opened the door and departed. Dumbledore watched her go before he sat at his desk and stared into the ceiling.

Much change was going to happen this year. Much change indeed.

Chapter Two, The Oversea Exchange Student

The young Draco Malfoy strolled into the Great Hall of Hogwarts with a slight smirk on his face. He had noticed that Weasley and Potter had not been on the train. He didn’t have the foggiest clue of where they could be, but he didn’t care. He grinned, perhaps they were expelled. One could only hope.

He quickly took his seat at the Slytherin table, waiting for the first year students to arrive into the Great Hall. Draco pondered for a moment how many of the new students were going to be Slytherins. He secretly hoped only the Pure-Bloods would make it into the Slytherin House. Which, was likely to be the case.

Just than the doors swung open and Professor McGonagall walked in with the first years, who had faces of pure nervousness. They all looked around the Great Hall, than at the tables of the four houses. Some pointed at the Gryffindor table, while others cast dark looks over to the Slytherin table.

Within a few moments all the First years were sorted into their Houses. Draco took a quick glance over at the new Slytherin’s and smirked slightly. Draco turned his head when he saw that Dumbledore was rising from his chair to give his speech for the new year that was ahead. Malfoy still couldn’t help but notice the absence of two of his three least favorite Gryffindors.

“Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts everyone. Now before I give my speech, there is one last thing that needs to be done. We have a very interesting guest with us here tonight. She is an exchange student from the United States of America and I hope you all give her a good hearty greeting. However, like all students here she will be sorted into one of the four houses.” Suddenly the door opened with a jolt again and a young girl with dark brown hair and golden hazel eyes stepped into the Great Hall. There was a murmuring of all the tables as she approached the stool that still had the Sorting Hat sitting upon it.

“Everyone please welcome, Miss Jersey Dagmar.” The Headmaster spoke the name loudly, almost with a hint of pride in his voice. The girl on the other hand merely grinned as she looked at all the students before her. Her eyes stopped at the Slytherin table and Draco could have sworn she was staring at him.

“Now, Miss Dagmar, please sit and I’ll place the Sorting Hat on your head so you can be sorted.” spoke Professor McGonagall as she hurriedly set the hat atop Jersey’s hair. The hat was silent for only a few moments before it yelled, “Slytherin!”

There was a roar of applause as the Slytherin table stood up to welcome it’s new Housemate, quite pleased that they were the ones to acquire the exchange student. Jersey ran down to her table finding a seat she wanted, however she had to shove Goyle out of the way, so she could plop herself next to Draco.

“Welcome to Slytherin. The name’s Draco Malfoy.” he held out his hand for her to shake, showing that he saw her as an equal. The new girl only looked at the out stretched hand, than punched Draco in the arm.

“Bloody hell! What was that for?”

“That’s how Americans say hello, Brit.” she laughed as she spoke and quickly grabbed some food as Dumbledore had just finished his speech and the feast had begun.

Draco looked at her oddly for a second, “Brit?”
“Yes, you’re British. Brit is just a shortened version of it. Duh.” she shoveled some food into her mouth, barely chewing as she ate, “Or I could call you ‘Dragon’, since your name is Latin for dragon. But, than wouldn’t be an insult now would it?”

“I know what my name means thank you!” Draco straightened himself out and slowly started to gather some food for himself as well. He honestly didn’t know what to think of this new arrival. No Slytherin before had ever so openly insult him before. Maybe it would have been for the better if she had been sorted into Gryffindor.

Than again, who knew how this was going to play out. He just hoped she would prove herself to be a worthy Slytherin.

Author’s Note: Yayness. Third chapter here we go. Hopefully I’ll start getting some more reviews soon. Seems there is only one person reading my story.

Chapter Three, The Second Year’s First Year

The morning sun crept up from the sky, signaling it was time for everyone to wake up from their evening slumber. Draco was quick to hop out of bed and get ready for breakfast; he was eager to see if Potter and Weasley were there. He hoped he was right about them being gone from the school for good.

The young Slytherin quickly walked to the Great Hall and moved towards his table. As he approached he noticed that Jersey was already there eating her breakfast and looking over her class schedule.

“You’re a quick one.”

Jersey glanced up at the voice, finally seeing that it was Draco’s she had heard. She smiled up at him, “What? I get no hello?” Draco rolled his eyes and sat next to her, helping himself to some food as well.

“Looks like we have Potions with the Gryffindors. That should be interesting.”

Draco grinned, “It’s always interesting. I think you might like Professor Snape. He’s honestly the only fair teacher around this bloody school.” At Malfoy’s words Jersey stared at him again. Draco caught the look and stared right back at her, “What?” he asked.

“Nothing.” answered Jersey as she went back to reading her schedule.

More and more students were entering the Great Hall for their breakfast and class schedules. And, finally, as if to reply to Draco’s inquiry about the status of Harry and Ron’s position in the school the two Gryffindors along with Hermione walked into the Hall.

Draco sneered, “Looks like they got out of trouble again…” Jersey looked up to see who Draco was talking about.

“Who do you mean?”

He looked at her oddly, “You mean, you don’t know who Harry Potter is?, “ Draco shifted in his seat, “I don’t except you to know who Weasley is though. He’s not worth knowing.”

“And the girl?”

“She’s nothing more than a filthy little Mudblood.” Now it was Jersey’s turn to look at him oddly, “What’s a ‘Mudblood’?”

Malfoy than gaped at her. How could she not know what a Mudblood was? Surely she was a Pure-Blood witch. Than again he had never heard of the surname of Dagmar before and his father had records of all the Pure-Blooded wizards, even ones from other countries.

“You had a wizard and a witch as parents, right?” He asked her with a hint of suspicious in his tone of voice.

“Well, um, my father was a wizard. Very powerful. My mother…well, she was a ‘commoner’ some would say.” Jersey’s cheeks flushed with a shade of red from embarrassment. She finally stopped staring at her food and took at quick glance at Draco, who was eyeing her with some contempt. They seemed to stay like that for what felt like an eternity until Draco suddenly spoke up, “So, you’re a Half-Blood.”

“I suppose so. Does that matter to you?”

He looked away from her as he answered her question, “I guess for now…it doesn’t.” Suddenly the bell rang, telling the students it was time for their first class of the day. Draco got up and headed out of the Great Hall; Jersey was not far behind him.

Author’s Note: I think I’m finally getting people to read my little fan fiction here. About time too, I was starting to lose hope. This story will start to get interesting real soon. I promise, just keep reading my faithful readers.

Chapter Four, Meeting the Boy Who Lived

Entering into the dungeons of Snape’s classroom, Draco quickly sat himself down in the middle of the room. He glanced back to the door, wondering where Crabbe and Goyle were. His two friends had taken a liking to Jersey, but Draco was still unsure about her. She was just so…odd. Odd to be a Slytherin anyway.

Just than the golden Gryffindor trio stepped into the classroom and took their seats. They ignored Draco, talking among themselves until class started. Malfoy couldn’t help but sneer at them, wondering what they could possibly be talking about.

Within the next couple of minutes Jersey, Crabbe, and Goyle finally entered where they grabbed seats near Draco. He peered over at Gryffindors for a moment when he saw Weasley look over in their direction, than whispered something to the Mudblood girl.

“What are you whispering about, Weaslby? Can’t tell us, can you?” he asked, intent on finding out what they were talking about. He noticed that the Granger girl looked at Weasley and Potter nervously, but said nothing. However, it was Jersey who broke the silence, “You’re Harry Potter correct?” The Boy Who Lived looked at her for a brief interlude before nodding.

“Draco has told me all about you. He says you really like to ‘strut’ your meaningless importance around.” she smirked at Harry, for the first time showing her Slytherin attributes. Crabbe and Goyle both let on a small chuckle and Draco just had to grin. He had indeed underestimated her. She clearly knew a show off when she saw one.

“I’ve done nothing to you, you do realize that?” spoke up Potter, who was addressing Jersey. She glanced at Draco, smirking again as she raised her wand and aimed it at Harry’s chair. She spoke a quick spell under her breath and suddenly Harry’s chair broke into a dozen pieces, sending him to the floor in a loud thud.

And just at that moment was when Professor Snape walked in. He loomed over Harry like a predator about to devour it’s prey.

“So Mr. Potter, I see you rather sit on the floor during my lesson. If that is so, you may stay seated where you are,” Snape walked up to the front of the room, than turned again to Harry, “And ten points from Gryffindor.”

Harry blushed a deep crimson upon his cheeks and turned to look at the Slytherin’s who were howling in laughter. Some were even patting Jersey on the back, who was know putting her wand away. Draco had shoved Crabbe from his chair so Jersey could sit next to him.

“Where did you learn that Dagmar?”

“Oh, just something I learned on my own.” she smiled at the blonde haired boy. He returned the smile, which was an honest to good one, not a smirk or grin.

“You’re going to have to teach me it sometime.” he spoke softly to her, so they were the only ones to hear.

She answered him in a low whisper, “We’ll see.”

Author’s Note: Well, nothing really to say. Everyone who has been reading, thank you for the reviews. I do enjoy reading what other’s think of my work. So onto chapter five.

Title: Draco Malfoy and the Dragon Guardian

Chapter Five, The Baseball Beater

The sun shone down upon the grounds of Hogwarts. It was a weekend and most of the students were enjoying the warm sunshine of the afternoon. Draco Malfoy was laying on the grass, working on his Potions homework from Professor Snape. Crabbe and Goyle was also working on theirs as well, but it appeared they were having a tougher time of it. The newest member of their group appeared to be missing, but it mattered not to them. They knew she could look after herself.

A few minutes had passed when the Slytherin Quidditch Captain, Marcus Flint, walked up to Draco. Draco only looked at him for a moment and than returned back to his work.

“What do you want, Flint?” Flint appeared annoyed for a second before he spoke, “Tryouts are next Saturday. You still want to tryout don’t you?”

Draco finally turned to look at the older boy, “Of course I do. Still looking for a Beater as well?”

“Yes, but no one has even showed interest in the position,” Flint than looked as if he got a great idea, which was shown over his dull face, “Unless you know of someone, Malfoy?”

“How would I? I’m only a second year. I don’t know all that many yet.” The blonde haired Slytherin returned back to his essay, keen on Flint leaving him alone. Flint let out a heavy sigh. “If you do find someone, just let me know Malfoy.” And with that the older Slytherin sulked away.

Just as Flint left Jersey appeared; who was carrying a small bag that she dropped next to Draco.

“Hey! Bloody watch it will you?” She stuck her tongue out at Draco for his remark and quickly opened her bag. Draco looked at her questioningly, “What have you got in there?”

“Oh, just some sport things.” Draco raised his eyebrows at her comment, “You play Quidditch?”

“Oh no. I play a Muggle sport over in the United States called baseball. It’s really a lot of fun.” Jersey took out a long wooden stick that resembled the Beater’s bat and a small white ball. Malfoy stared at the objects oddly, he had never seen such things before.

Jersey caught his intense stare, “You want to see?” She threw the ball into the air very high. She than placed a firm grip on the handle of the wooden stick and waited for the ball to drop back down. Just as the ball reached level with her, she swung her bat. There was a sudden loud crack and all Draco saw was the ball soaring off into the distance.

“Bloody Hell! Did you do that?” Jersey seemed to blush somewhat, but nodded in answer. Draco grinned; getting up from the ground, “I think the Slytherin Quidditch team just found their new Beater.”

Jersey looked perplexed, “A what?”

Draco just grabbed her hand, trying to get her to follow him, “Come on. I need to take you to Flint.” Jersey still looked confused, but decided to just see where all of this was going to lead to. They entered into the Slytherin common room where some of the students were busy just relaxing. Marcus was sitting on one of the many sofa’s littered about the large room. He looked up as Draco entered, who walked right up to him.

“Flint, I think I found your Beater.” Flint looked at Draco, than at Jersey, “You must be kidding Malfoy. She’s a girl. She can’t possibly have the strength to be a Beater.”

“Just let her try out, Flint. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Besides, what else is there to lose? You haven’t found anyone else yet.” Flint seemed to consider Draco’s words for a second, than nodded, “Fine. She can show me what she’s got at try outs next week.”

Draco smiled and began to leave the common room, dragging Jersey with him again. She of course was still confused. “Draco, what did you get me into?”

“Do you know how to ride a broom?” he asked, not looking at her.

“Well, kind of.”

He now turned to look at her, “Good, that’ll be enough. Trust me…you’ll do fine.” She glared at him, “Typical, still not telling me anything.” Draco smirked back at her, “Get used to it Dagmar.”

Chapter Six, Mudbloods and Serpent Scales

The Slytherin tryouts had went well, Jersey indeed proving herself to Flint. Draco had also earned his spot as new Slytherin Seeker, and he was quite pleased with himself. Boasting about it whenever a student from a rival House walked passed him.

“I daresay I’ll be better than Potter. We all have the superior brooms anyway, so the other Houses don’t stand a chance.” Crabbe and Goyled nodded in agreement, showing they were just agreeing with Malfoy for the seek of agreeing with him. Once again, the group was without there newest member, who was always disappearing for some unknown reason. Instead, another Slytherin girl, named Pansy Parkinson, was following the three boys around.

“I don’t know why you let that other girl hang around you Draco. After all, she’s only a Half-Blood.” Draco made a slight sneer at Pansy, “She doesn’t hang off my arm like you do…” At this Pansy recoiled and stared blankly at the blonde haired Slytherin.

“You fancy her don’t you?”

Draco sighed heavily, “We’re friends. That’s it. Now just bloody drop the subject, Pansy.” In the past, everyone knew that Draco would have let Pansy fawn all over him, but lately he was hardly paying any attention to her.

Finally reaching there destination, which was Transfiguration class, they noticed that Jersey was waiting for Professor McGonagall to open the door. Draco broke from the other Slytherins and walked swiftly up to her.

“There you are we…” Draco cut his sentence short when he saw how tired and weary Jersey looked. He took another quick glance, taking note an aqua teal color rash was on her right arm. Jersey saw him staring at her arm and hid it away under the sleeves of her robes.

He walked up closer to her, looking into her hazel eyes, “Are you alright? You’ve been disappearing on many occasions. If you’re worried about the upcoming Quidditch match, don’t be. You’ll do fine.” Jersey only shook her head dismissively, “It’s not that…” she trailed off.

“Than what is it?” Draco had asked the question gently, but for some reason Jersey glared at him, “It’s none of your business! Stop butting in, Draco!” At this time was when McGonagall opened the door, startling both Draco and Jersey.

“There will be no need for shouting outside of my door Miss Dagmar, now please, everyone inside.” Jersey appeared to be embarrassed, but only for a moment. Moving to their seats, she sat next to Goyle who was mildly surprised, and which angered Malfoy. He was stuck sitting next to Pansy, who was enjoying that fact immensely.

The Slytherin’s were sharing this period with the Gryffindor’s and soon they were filing into the classroom. The ‘Golden Trio’ which was what Draco called them, sat close together. Potter looked up to see in somewhat of a surprise that Jersey wasn’t sitting next to, who they believed, to be her beloved Draco. Malfoy caught the stare from Potter and sneered in his direction, however not uttering a word. He didn’t need the Boy Who Lived commenting on what was going on in his friendships. Soon class had started and went with felt like a blur to Draco and Jersey. They didn’t look at each other during the whole lesson and were quite quiet for the most part.

Just as quickly as the lesson had begun it had ended. Jersey quickly gathered up her books and stalked out of the room. Not far behind her was Draco, who was intent on finding out what was wrong with her. He had just caught up with her when the Gryffindor trio was walking by. It seemed that Ron couldn’t help but make a comment on the pair of Slytherin’s and opened his mouth, “Wow, never thought I’d see the day when Malfoy actually worried about someone other than himself.” The young Weasley grinned at his own cleverness.

“I’d shut up if I were you, Weasley.” Draco frowned at all three of them, hoping they would get that he wanted them to back off. Ron’s grin soon turned into a frown and before he could retaliate Hermione walked up to Jersey, “Are you alight? Did Malfoy do something to upset you?” Hermione spoke softly and rubbed Jersey’s arm gently for reassurance. This caused a great flare of temper in Draco and he ripped Hermione’s hand from Jersey’s arm.

“Don’t touch her you filthy little Mudblood!” Suddenly the hall was quiet, all five students staring at one another. Than, to Draco’s astonishment, Ron raised his wand; it was broken in half and taped back together.

“You’ll pay for that! Eat slugs Malfoy!” A blinding lit the corridor and Ron was thrown back into the wall. The Weasley got up clumsily, than hacked up a somewhat large slug. At this Jersey finally cracked a smile. Harry saw the look and grabbed Ron, “Come on, let’s take him to Hagrid’s.” And with that Potter and his lackeys were gone.

Draco turned to look at Jersey, who was still smiling, “Are we okay?” She nodded, “I’m sorry Draco. I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you, you were just looking out for me.”

“It’s okay. I just don’t like my best mate being mad at me.” At this Jersey looked up at him, “You mean that?”

He smiled at her, “Yes, I mean it.”

Chapter Seven, Draco’s Worries and Snape’s Advice

Days and soon weeks went by and still Jersey was acting weird as ever. When she was around Draco, he made it appear he had not noticed her odd behavior. But, still, he worried about her. It had come to the point where Draco felt he had to talk to someone about Jersey, and he could think of one person, Professor Snape.

So, during a windy November weekend, a week before the Quidditch match; he went to Snape. Knocking on his Head of House’s door, Draco slowly pushed open the door when he had heard the low ‘enter’ from Snape.

The young Slytherin walked into Snape’s office which was decorated with all sorts of nasty things proudly displayed in jars of liquid. Draco sat in the chair facing opposite of Snape’s desk; who was looking at Draco with a great deal of interest.

“So Draco, what did you need to discuss with me?”

Draco glanced away, almost feeling ashamed, for he felt he was getting Jersey in trouble. But, if she needed help, he knew Snape could offer it to her.

“It’s Jersey, sir. She’s been…acting odd lately.” Snape took in Draco’s words carefully, “What do you mean by odd, Draco?” Draco now looked into the Head of Slytherin’s eyes, “She’s been disappearing for hours at a time and sometimes I have, on accident, seen these rashes on her skin. She won’t tell me what they are…”

“Well, I suppose I could have a word with her. Or perhaps you could convince her to see me?” At this suggestion Draco shook his head, “I already have. She won’t listen to me. I just want her to be okay.”

“You care for her?” asked Snape cautiously. At the question Draco’s cheeks turned a bright red over his pale face.

“Yes, I suppose I do, sir.” Snape nodded his head, “I will talk to her after the next Potion’s lesson. And it will be done privately. She doesn’t need to know that you asked me to do this. Knowing her she would be quite angry with you if she found it out.” Draco agreed with Snape with a gentle nod of his head, than something popped into his head.

“Um…sir…if you don’t mind me asking, but did you have a best friend who was a girl? At school I mean.” Draco could have sworn he saw Professor Snape twitch for moment before he turned around.

“I did. However, don’t put so much worth in your friendship with Jersey, Draco. She might be your friend on day and not the next. Just be weary,” Snape placed his hand on Draco’s shoulders, “Now off you go.” And with that Draco left Snape’s office to return back to the Slytherin common room. As he entered into the large room he took a quick look around for Jersey. She was nowhere to be seen. She could be in the girl’s dormitory, but that meant Draco couldn’t be sure unless he waited for awhile.

Within a few hours Draco had fallen asleep, unaware of a pair of large hazel eyes staring at him from a shadowed corner of the common room. And than the eyes were gone, as if they were never there in the first place.

Chapter Eight, The Eve before Quidditch

It appeared that Snape did indeed have a talk with Jersey. She seemed back to her old self in no time, which Draco was glad for. He was glad to have his best friend back, and luckily before Quidditch. Earlier in the day Draco’s father, Lucius Malfoy, had sent him an owl telling his son he would be arriving to the school to watch the Quidditch match for the next day.

Draco was delighted at first, but than realized he would have to introduce Jersey to his father. Jersey was, after all, only a Half-Blood. The young Malfoy didn’t know how the older Malfoy would handle that information.

“Why so glum, Draco? Aren’t you excited about the match tomorrow?” Jersey sat next to him on one of the sofa’s in the Slytherin common room. He glanced at her for second, “My father is coming soon today to see the game for tomorrow.” Jersey could tell there was a slight quivering in Draco’s voice.

“Why is that bad?” she asked the boy who was next to her.

“Well, he wants to meet the girl who I have come to see as my best friend. He probably wants to see if you are ‘worthy’ or not.”

“You’re worried because I’m not a Pure-Blood, huh?” Draco nodded at her question, signaling his answer. Indeed, he was worried, his father would be surely disapprove of Jersey. But, Draco had a feeling he wouldn’t let that stand between his friendship with her.

And sure enough, within a couple of hours, Draco was asked to meet his father in the Great Hall; along with Jersey. It seemed like it took an eternity for them to reach the Great Hall and silently Draco was grateful for that. Finally pushing the doors to the Great Hall, Draco and Jersey entered, and they both noticed Draco’s father sitting at the Slytherin table, awaiting them.

“Hello, my son,” Lucius than turned his attention to Jersey, “And you must be the Miss Dagmar I’ve heard a great deal about you from Draco’s letters to home.” Mr. Malfoy held out his hand for Jersey shake and she did in earnest. Lucius gestured that all of three of them should sit turned his gaze back at Jersey.

“Now, tell me, my dear. Who were your parents, I am quite curious.” Jersey swallowed hard at the question, but held her head up high before answering, “My father went by the name Tiune Dagmar. He was a great wizard, one of the most respected in North America.” She bravely looked up at Lucius, who appeared to have a sneer etched on his face, “my mother, though, was not a witch. She was a…”

“A muggle!” Draco’s father had finished the sentence for her and the abruptness of his tone scared her for a moment. Lucius turned his attention suddenly to his son, “And why have you befriended this girl, Draco?”

Draco looked at his father defiantly, “Father, she is a Slytherin. She’s not a Mudb…I mean a Muggle-born. So I figured it would be okay, she’s just a friend.”

Suddenly, Jersey rose out of her seat, and stared down at Mr. Malfoy, “I would like to speak in my defense, sir. I may not be a Pure-Blood, however, I stand by everything Slytherin stands for and than some. My mother might have been a muggle, but she was still of noble birth. If she wasn’t a worthy wife and mother my father would not have sacrificed his life to save her and myself.” At this statement Lucius’s eyebrows perked up, “Your father is dead?” Jersey nodded a yes than spoke again, “My mother is dead as well. I still live in the United States, however, the only family I have left is my Uncle Dartel.”

Lucius seemed to be considering something for a moment, than a wide smiled appeared on his pointed face. He also rose from his seat, “I must say Miss Dagmar, you are of a noble birth, to stand up to me…well it’s most…encouraging. I approve of you friendship with Draco, and I hope when the holidays arrive you would join us for Christmas at Malfoy Manor. Provided our Uncle let’s you of course.” he smiled again and shook Jersey’s hand again as well.

“Good luck to both of you in the match tomorrow.” And with that Draco’s father was gone. Draco himself, however, exhaled a huge bit of breath. Jersey plopped herself down next to him, “Where you worried the whole time?”

“A bit. Not many have stood up to father. I can’t believe I tried to as well…” he stared into Jersey’s and uttered his next sentence in a hushed whisper, “What are you doing to me, Dagmar…”

Jersey did not hear it.

Chapter Nine, Slytherin Versus Gryffindor

The sun shined brightly down onto the Hogwarts castle. It was a chilly Saturday, however the whole school was in an excited buzz. Today was the first Quidditch match between the biggest rival Houses; Slytherin and Gryffindor.

Both Jersey and Draco tried to eat breakfast, but both were too nervous to eat their bacon and eggs. The Slytherin Captain, Flint, watched them pick nervously at their food.

“You two need to stop worrying. We’re going to win. End of story.” Draco glanced at Flint, the blonde Slytherin had a feeling Flint wasn’t that good in the ‘pep talk’ area. Within another hour it was time to hand to the changing room to change into their uniforms. Draco and Jersey admired theirs for a moment, both their last names were proudly sewed into the back; a 7 under Malfoy, a 5 under Dagmar.

Finished with their daydreaming they got dressed, grabbing their brooms along the way. Walking onto the pitch, Flint shook Oliver Wood’s hand with a tight grip. With that being done, everyone mounted their broomsticks; hovering in the air. Finally, Madam Hooch threw the Quaffle into the air, signaling the start of the game.

Flint quickly swept low in the air, grabbing the red ball. He passed it to one of the other Chasers, who closed in on the Gryffindor Keeper. The shot was made and Wood missed by an inch.

“Slytherin scores! They lead Gryffindor 10-0.” Lee Jordan’s commentary rang though the pitch with a slight thunderous force.

Draco was flying around the whole pitch, searching wildly for the Golden Snitch. He’d be damned if he was going to let Potter catch it. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed Jersey doing all right. She had already made one spectacular move by sending a Bludger at one of the Gryffindor Beaters. The possessed ball had made contact with Fred Weasley, sending him crashing to the ground below, but only by a few feet.

Soon the score was ninety to sixty, and things were getting desperate for both teams. It was beginning to matter all to the Seekers. Gla
