AC/DC stands for Alternate current/Direct Current, they got the name from the Young brothers’ sister’s vacuum cleaner. Get your facts straight.

The band has stated that’s how they got their name, in the booklet of the “For those about to Rock we salute you” album. I’m not wrong.

Pockets is right, AC/DC is my boyfriends favourite band and the band state this on their 1977 Paris tour (which he has on video) by the original singer Bon Scott and the guitarist Angus Young so put that in your pipe and smoke it Razz

Whoever told you that is telling lies

Yeah you should listen to it, it’s an awesome song and just because a band says hell a lot doesn’t mean their evil.

@Hermione

Like a rolling stone is awesome, it’s like my favorite Dylan song.

I managed to listen to stairway to Heaven and I thought it was a very good song but I couldn't understand the lyrics Confused . i still can't believe that someone can play the guitar and like that and make it sound like the way it was in stairway to heaven.

Some Facts About Stairway:

Robert and Jimmy wrote this in an old mansion called Headley Grange in Worcestershire, England, where they recorded most of their 4th album. It was a huge, old, dusty mansion with no electricity but great acoustics. Bands would go there to get some privacy and focus on songwriting. One night, in front of a roaring fire, Page strummed the chords to this for Robert. Plant wrote 90% of the lyrics right there in front of the fire. He has said in many interviews that he didn't seem to be writing, that something else was moving his pencil for him. Plant is a great admirer of all things mystic, the old English legends and lore and the writings of the Celts. He was immersed in The Lord Of The Rings around this time and many of his lyrics reflect that. (thanks, Chris - Tucson, AZ)

The members of Led Zeppelin were great fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series - as many as 5 of their songs have direct references to Tolkien's literary masterpiece - the most evident song being "Ramble On." It's possible that Stairway to Heaven also makes many references to Tolkien's story. The phrase, "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees" could be a reference to the smoke rings blown by the wizard Gandalf. Some say the song itself was inspired by the novel - and that the lady spoken of in the tale is Lady Galadriel, the Queen of Elves who lives in the golden forest of Lothlorien. In the book, all that glittered around her, was in fact, gold, as the leaves of the trees in the forest of Lothlorien were golden. (thanks, Shannon - Tacoma, WA)

Ramble on is another great song but I think Battle of Evermore is more about LOTR.

Hey pockets I think Eric Clapton’s solo in Layla is better than Jimmy Page’s in Stairway to Heaven. What do you say to that, ha ha Laughing . And Highway to Hell by AC/DC rocks! Thanks for all the recommendations!

Nah…! Layla is awesome and all but the solo isn’t as great as the one in Stairway, easily one of the best solo’s ever but not as good as Stairway. Wink

And yeah, AC/DC does rock!
