Hardcover! Unless paperback's cheaper, of course. Like the others.

Paperbacks are more easily carried around, but get warped quickly when you start reading them. Plusssss I was at Target yesterday browsing around the books when I picked up the Sorcerer's Stone (paperback) and the pages were all yellow and nasty looking! Guess they really can't hold up. Sounds like if you want something that lasts, the hardcovers (altho expensive) are the way to go.

wow, I'm surprised so many prefer hard cover. I don't like hard cover, its hard to read without wrecking it. I have all paper back except for DH. But I was thinking of buying the Hard cover edditions of the American copies [which are the ones that this forums banner is based on]

The paperback versions were not out at the time I bought any of the books, and I wasn't going to wait, so all mine are hardback. If it is a book that I intend to reread and keep over the years, I prefer hardback. Failing that, I prefer trade paperback (the larger sized paperbacks, rather than the "pocketbook" size).

I have all seven in hardcover, as well. I hate ever having to get anything in paperback...too bendy and easily damaged.

I have 1-4 in paperback, because when I started to really get into Harry Potter, GoF was the latest one out. Then I have 5-7 in hardcover.

Personally, I prefer the hardcovers. Well, the covers tend to annoy me a lot so I'll slip them off and I'm good to go Smile

I think the hardcovers look a lot nicer, but the paperbacks are easier to read IMO. The only thing I don't like about the paperbacks is the creases you get on the spine while reading. It just makes my Sorcerer's Stone look really ugly.

Same here, like exactly.

I sort of like to have both because I think that the hardback looks better on a shelf and I like the covers, but I like to read the paperbacks because by hardback covers tend to get crumpled. Plus, they're heavy.

PS - paperback
CoS - paperback
PoA - paperback
GoF - paperback
OotP - hardcover
HBP - hardcover
DH - hardcover

I prefer hardcovers but my copies of the first four weren't actually mine but I claimed them once I'd read them about seven years ago.

I have 1, 2, and 4 in paperback and 5, 6, and 7 in hardcover. I have the 3rd in both. I don't know why, but for some reason we bought it in paperback after we already had the hardcover. I also have 2 paperback copies of both the 1st and 2nd book.
