FM dived, to his right side, but the curse still glanced his left wrist. Wincing in pain, he slashed his wand at Ethan, creating a purple streak of flame.
(That would be Dolohov's spell in the Dept. of Mysteries)

Quite aggravated, FM produced a shield charm so great, Ethans spell bounded off, and shot right back at him.

FM pointed his wand at a nearby gargoyle, who sprung to life, and jumped in front of the spell, blocking it for him. Flicking his wand again, the gargoyle flew towards Ethan, launching an attack.

2. The explosion would have at least some damage to you

FM thought Impedimenta, and the shards of rock froze, mid-air. Slashing his wand a few times, he sent the Sectumsempra curse at Ethan.
(and yet, I still keep fighting you, and refuse to degrade this to a flame war).
