Heh heh. I didn't check the spelling on any of them, would have been a miracle if they were all correct.
I can't quite figure out 'Hermiome', but theres' something there I'm sure. Driving me crazy.
Remus had a twin brother named Romulus. They were raised by werewolves. Romulus founded Rome and turned bad and killed his brother, Remus. Lupin means wolf.
Hermione was aa character in Shakespeare who was turned to stone, similiar to CoS...
Gryffindor... a Gryffin is a mythological creature
Have been working on a list of character names from the books and guessing at their hidden meanings, just for fun. Would like to keep the official copy here.

Try learning to spell correctly buddy. How difficult is it to refer the books if you are unsure. Surely seeing the names over 100 times would mean you you'd be capable of spelling them correctly _________________

Draco was an incredibly strict and sometimes creul Greek ruler, so Draco Malfoy could come from that... _________________ Harry witnessed Professor McGonagall walking right past Peeves, who was determinedly loosening a crystal chandelier, and could have sworn he heard her tell the poltergeist out of the corner of her mouth, "It unscrews the other way."

Yeah, Bellatrix is Latin for "Female warrior." It's a star in the constellation Orion.
And I got this off a website about the myths of the constellations...
Quote:
Orion was in love with Merope, one of the Seven Sisters who form the Pleiades, but Merope would have nothing to do with him. Orion's tragic life ended when he stepped on Scorpius, the scorpion. The gods felt sorry for him, so they put him and his dogs in the sky as constellations. They also put all of the animals he hunted up there near him. Scorpius, however, was placed on the opposite side of the sky so Orion would never be hurt by it again.

Nagini-Naga is a Sanskrit (ancient language in India) for snake. Nagi is the female form. Nagaina is one of the two King Cobras (her mate is Nag) in Rudyard Kipling's Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (My favorite short story apart from The Pagemaster), which is a feminme form of Nag, which is Hindi for cobra. Nagini must have been inspired by Nagi and Nagaina.
OH! We were talking about the story of Orion. The woman he fell in love with was Merope, which was the name of Tom Riddle's mother! _________________ I'm quite an unlikely Slytherin!
Argh, ya lubbards! Its easy as pie. Harry Potter he reminds me of Trotter, 'cause he's always on a mission going around, he is. The 'harry' part, well, that there is 'cause he gets into alot of harry situations.
its a simple game it is. Pardon'n yer honours of high station, me bein' a lowly Mubble and all......
