thats what I think most people love about snape is he kept you guessing all the way untill the end one minute you think 'hey he might not be so bad he just saved Harry' next thing you know he's being a total jerk. He's a great anti hero _________________ "I have a code of conduct..victory at all cost" -Starscream

there is a reason you love him in some parts and loathe him in others. its because he's one hell of a complex character. he's not black and white or 2D. In some areas he deserves mountains of praise, in others he deserves a damn good thrashing. But thats part of what makes him so interesting. He's a wonderful character, but what I don't get is how people try to defend everything he does. Its because he's not in the right all the time that makes him so interesting. the conflict on liking and disliking him just makes it even better in my opinion. people love to hate a villian, people love to love a hero, you put elements of both in a character and that's a whole lot of love!
I suspect some of the people defending him are those that get so into a character they can't or don't want to see any wrong, and the rest are just folks who like playing devil's advocate in a discussion. I love the fact that the character is flawed and bitter - ultimately a "good guy" who isn't really a good guy. _________________ I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. Okay, I REALLY love this character. Really. I think that's because I understand him so well. And I'll speak for myself when I say this: I do not try to defend everything he does - I try to explain and justify, and those are completely different things from defending. I don't think the way he treats Harry (or any other of the students, for that matter), but I can't blaime him for doing that. Neither of us can, I think. After all you have seen and read about him, does any of you think there was a way of him not being as he is?
Well, of course there was, once upon a time. But he blowed it up (or it was Lily who did it? But well, that's one of the great questions about the character, is it not?)...
Spoiler:
Then, all we have now is the shadow of the good person he could be... the bitter teacher, ex-Death Eater who does everything in his power (including risk his own life) to undo the greatest mistake of his life.
Alright, enough rambling.

ohh, I just loved to play the devil advocate when it came to Snape, before book 7 was released. Actually, I loved to play for both sides, even though I've always believed in his innocence.

It's interesting to think about what kind of man Snape would have been if Lily had remained his friend...maybe she could have kept him from becoming a death eater. _________________ "I have a code of conduct..victory at all cost" -Starscream

That is interesting. I don't get the impression that Lily reciprocated Snape's feelings, I think she did just see him as a friend and only a friend. I'm not sure if it would have been any better for him to have her as a friend when his own feelings for her ran deeper than that. _________________ I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. It is totally Snape's fault for losing Lily. She gave him many chances to change, but he never did. I guess he liked his powerful pals better. And then he called her something unforgivable when she was trying to help him. That being said it's still tragic, but I don't see how Lily could be blamed at all. She TRIED to change him, but he wouldn't go along with it.
and I don't necessarily blame snape for how he felt about harry initially...but I do for how he treated him. I really think if he'd given him a chance he would have seen how much like his mother was, instead of just assuming he was like his father. they could have had a great relationship, but he blew that too. As Dumbledore said...its your choices that shape you. He simply made bad choices. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer

At the time his friendship with Lily blew up he was at that age where kids don't always know what they want and don't always know how to act around people they have feelings for. Snape acted like a teenage guy. He had his group of friends he wanted to impress and he took Lily for granted. Plus, a lot of guys that age don't like the thought of a girl helping them out of a rough situation. So he pushed her away. It was a pretty nasty thing to do, but kids go through stuff like that. People act like idiots and friendships get broken up. It does make me wonder though, if he hadn't joined the DE, if the Potters had lived, would he eventually have been reconciled with her and James. _________________ I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. doubt it in order to do that they would have both had to admit they were wrong for treating each other like crap...something I dont think either one would be willing to do _________________ "I have a code of conduct..victory at all cost" -Starscream

yeah Snape was the biggest twist. I loved it! Although I don`t remember what I was thinking about him before. I just remember that I though he was cool and I loved his sarcasm. GO SNAPE!! _________________ http://www.fanfiction.net/~reginavoltaire
I liked Snape, even when he hated Harry in Chapter 8 of PS/SS, I loved how he turned out to be the good and bad guy in all of it, but I was shocked when I found out he liked Lily, I thought that was wrong!
why whould that be wrong? she was good looking and no wonder he liked her. + they had known each other before school.
I was shocked too when I found out. but I thought it was great. _________________ http://www.fanfiction.net/~reginavoltaire
I didn't like Snape in the first four books and then OotP, I felt bad. The sixth one, I HATED him because he killed DD and then the last one (during his chapter), I started becoming fond of him. _________________ Yas and Simmy - Putting Luna on catwalks since 2008!
