I don't necessarily think he was a "good" guy but I think he is someone easy to sympathize with.
Spoiler:
It's true that he is only on dumbledore's side because of his love for Lily but that kind of loyalty is attractive I guess and everyone can sympathize with unrequitted love. His story is just so heartbreaking in the end that it's hard not to be drawn to him and his sadness. When Harry said he was brave it made me really sad because he had never been seen for what he was while he was alive. He could be a jerk but he was also just heartbroken and loyal.
i agree. snape was in a way good since he never backstabbed dumbledore. true, snape didnt save harry because he cared about harry, he did it for lily. but even that is beautiful. even when she's dead, he loves her. and he cares for her child even tho he doesnt really like harry. _________________

I don't cry that much during the books either, though I usually get teary-eyed every time Sirius is mentioned if I've just finished reading book 3 or 5. _________________
Books make me cry more than the movies.... Like when Sirius died in the movie (sorry for bringing it up, hun), it wasn't nearly as devastating for me as it was in the book.
I dunno.... I just loved Severus, that's all <3 T_T _________________
I bawled during the film, and after(how embarrassing lol), but I think it's more emotional during the books because you're inside Harry's head and I usually have to stop reading 'cause tears blur my eyes. _________________
I Really like Snape but you see, Sirius etc would stand by his friends..I can picture Snape running off if things got tough..i'd prefer to die fighting for my beliefs but I think Snape would hide lol.
I like him, he's a great teacher! _________________
I can't picture Snape deserting his friends at all.
He put his own life on the line to be a double agent for the better part of his life, after all that I doubt he'd just run off when things got tough. _________________
At first I really hated it too but if you think about it, it makes sense..I really don't think Snape would have been comfortable with everyone knowing, after the downfall of Voldemort, that he played such a key part in it,
especially he wouldn't like anyone thinking he cared for Harry. I think it's better that everyone know after the fact. I think he really did care for Harry though, at the last minute he obviously wanted Harry to know what really happened, and for it to strengthen him so he could fight.

^I agree, Snape was very loyal, not only to Dumbledore and Lily but if he had had real friends he cared about, I think he would have been very loyal to them as well. I don't think he cared about his friends from school very much though, he was above them ultimately, but maybe he didn't know it then. _________________
I agree with Gideon Prewett. Alan Rickman played the perfect Snape. I can't imagine anyone else who could have pulled it off.
I loved that Goblet of Fire scene too. I watched it earlier on and it made me chuckle.
Did anyone just love the part in the Prizoner of Azkaban film when Lupin turns into a werewolf and Snape stands in front of Harry, Ron and Hermione with his arms out to protect them?

I love that part. I agree that Alan Rickman is the perfect Snape, there's nobody better for the part.

You`re kidding right? Who doesn`t love that? lol He`s so great! Even hating those little brats (sorry) didn`t stop him protecting them.
Snape to me is a Byronic hero type. As someone already stated, he's on the side of good, but not necessarily a 'good guy.' He's a hero in his own way, but he's lacking many of the qualities we associate with heroes. I've always found him to be one of the most complicated characters in the series. He's quite a dark figure for children's literature. _________________ I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once.
