Hey, this has been bugging me for a while. Is the Ministry of Magic a democratic organisation? I mean there hasn't been any mention of the Minister getting elected. Doesn't the wizarding community get to decide who governs them? Also, in book 5, the Ministry appears to be corrupt and a bit authoritarian. I mean, how can the Ministry just take over a school, Hogwarts? And how on earth can Aurors attack innocent people with no reason like Prof. McGonagall? She was attacked just because she wanted to know why Hagrid was being arrested. And the Dementors taking orders from the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister? They would have jumped at any oppotunity to perform a Kiss, obviously. Why did the Ministry use them?
And as Rita Skeeters says, Fudge was 'leaning on the Daily Prophet'. In other words he was censoring it. No freedom of speech. And Stan Shunpike(in book 6) not gettin released because the Ministry don't want to admit their mistake.
Thigs would have been a whole lot better if Dumbledore was Minister. But he likes his job too much.

I'm thinking No, for the reasons you've stated above. Although I don't think J.K. is really worried about kids thinking what type of government is going on, it is interesting that you've brought to my attention. I've never thought of that before.

I just thought it was unusual, that's all. But you're right, kids aren't going to be wondering about this. One thing for sure, though. They all agree that the Ministry is no good. Laughing

I think there is a posibity that it is because in OoP - I think - people are calling for Fudge's resignition. If it was something like a monechy or Hitler kind democracy - or rather non-democracy - then they wouldn't have a say in the matter (in my opinion anyways) Embarassed

A government can be democratic and still be corrupt look at america the Aurors in OoP where like the FBI when hoover first introduced them they used unorthodox tactics to arrest who they needed even if it came to trapping people in the act of trying to kill somebody.

i think that they are an old english government minus the monarchy. It's very corrupt, but there's no monarchy.
