Well it was halfway into the movie when i was told by the women who was picking her nose next to me that the directors were switched...again. I guess i could have realized this...i mean as always, the movie must be spliced together from only a small part per chapter. the part where the order shows up to rescue harry from his hellhole inthe dursleys house took about 2 chapters in the book but was about 30 seconds in the movie. Other things i noticed offhand were the frequent "newspaper" fly-ins. it was clever, in an abstract directors view, but kind of dizzying and made me wonder if normal perople were capable of reading the 18th century text in a millisecond.

also in previous movies, when sirius shows up in the fire, in this movie there was just a illusion of him. in the past, his face was formed by the embers

what i personally didnt get was when dumbledores and voldemorts wands connected when fighting in the ministry at the end. they did the joining shabang that, we were told, only happens when two wands are made from the same material...a sister wand. that wasnt int he book, was it?

we need chris columbus back. he set the classic look for harry potter, seeing as he was the director for the first two films. in the first two films, it was all cloaks, and they slowly skipped away from that as there would be new directors each and every time. oh, well, i'm not complaining. i love all the movies. seeing as the first movie is my favorite, i think i'm leaning to favor chris columbus. oh, well. i guess we'll just have to get used to drastic changes for (practically) every film.

I liked the new director the best.
I just went to see the movie again last night, and I still think it's the best movie yet.

They always offer the director to come back, but they never do. Chris COlumbus stayed for two movies, the first and second. But then went on to just produce the 3rd and I think the fourth, too. They then got Alfonso Cuaron, who didn't want to do teh fourth, then Mike Newell, who also turned down the chance to make the fifth movie. They've all cited the same reasons... it's too time consuming. Most movies take between 2 to 6 months to film. SOme indie films can take as little as 4 to 6 weeks. Not the Potter films. Between the young cast members who can only work for a certain amount of hours, to the huge special effects and the stunts... most directors just don't have the time to commit. Many directors have turned down the chance competely to do just one film. You'd think they'd jumo at the chance, but no. And they've all said it's because of the time they'd have to commit.

The changes that are made, such as the fire is the different directors viewpoints. The fast pace of this film, like with the newspapers, was David Yates'c choice. But it's not like they rule with a dictatorship. The producers are very hands on, as are JKR and even the cast members have been known to throw their two cents in. For instance, When SIrius punch Lucius, it was supposed to be a hex, but Gary Oldman felt this would work better, and I have to agree.

For the first time since Chris Columbu they'll have the same directors for more than one film... David Yates has agreed to direct the next film. So love him or hate him, he'll be back. And I have to say, although I liked the looks of all the film so far, I also liked the looks of this film. I liked that it was so fast paced, it matched the intensity of the substance this film was filled with.

I agree with the newspaper roll being difficult to read, as well making my head spin a bit. I would liked this movie more had they not edited the story around so much. Espcially RoR break-in and the Wand connection with dumbledore. I wanted a bit more action, like the statue protectors in the book.

A bit of both, actually. The look became a bit "stale." That word was used in a bunch of reviews for CoS.
The thing was, he wasn't expecting to return, anyway. It's just too time consuming and he had a family including two kids. His daughter he was able to take on set (she played Susan Bones) but he wanted to do others things. So he stepped down and became producer. If he was fired, they wouldn't have let him produce, ya know?
