Arthur Levine, publisher of the HP books, revealed the cover art for the deluxe edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Mr. Levine said that this is one of his favorite scenes in the book, and that he specifically asked for artist Mary GrandPré to draw this for the cover of the deluxe edition.

Scholastic describes the scene as:

Set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron's clothes in tatters, cling atop a flying dragon in this astonishing artwork created by Mary GrandPre for the deluxe edition. As mist creeps down towering hillsides to a village below, questions arise about where the trio is headed and what has led them to this spellbinding moment.

So what do you think of this scene? Where do you think they are? WHere are they headed? How did they get hold of a dragon? Why are their clothes in tatters?

It looks very much like a Norwegian Ridgeback.....the little village interests me more, secluded and snug, it must be a wizard stronghold.

I also have a hunch that it's Hogwart's valley, having seen the films it looks familiar.

I remember reading this in FBAWTFT (not a direct quote, if someone else has the book on hand they can correct me):

Fairly long
Feasts on Whales
Slender spikes on back
Rare
grey in colour
eggs often mistaken as stones

Sounds like one to me.

How is Harry going to get to Godric's Hollow when Wormtail is the only one who knows where it is?

the same way hagrid found it

But how did Hagrid find it? It doesn't make any sense unless after someone knows where the place is, eveyrone can find it.

If it's not Norbet, I bet it has to do with something with RAB. Also, I doubt that it is the battle after they defeated Voldemort... I dont think they would release anything that would deal with the ending. I think it could be them leaving after battling for a long time or a huge battle and heading off to go after lord Voldemort. This is just my hunch...

I think the dragon is norbert. And i don't know if anyone notices it's a village that is under a big hill. Which is exactly the outlook of the village Little Hangleton, mentioned in HBP. And their tattered clothes suggest that they were in a major rumble.
I hope it's after the battle with Voldemort. Wink

I don't think the Dragon is Norbert...it would hurt to ride on a ridged back! If it was even possible. I think an Antipodean Opal Eye is more likely.
Quote:
Antipodean Opaleye is considered by wizards worldwide to be one of the most beautiful species of dragon. They are found in New Zealand but are known to migrate to Australia when territory is scarce. It weighs between two and three tons and its flames are bright scarlet. Described as having iridescent, pearly scales and multi-coloured pupil-less eyes, the Opaleye never kills humans, its favourite food being sheep. Its eggs are pale grey and may be mistaken for fossils by Muggles. A series of kangaroo killings in the 1970s were attributed to a male Opaleye ousted by a dominant female.
from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragons_%28Harry_Potter%29

look at the eyes...its got to be. And it never kills humans. Thats why they can ride it! This also makes one wonder if the trio could go to New Zealand...I've heard that the village looks like it could be from there. Maybe Godric's hollow was even in NZ...it did take a day to get Harry to the Dursleys Wink

also...on the uk kids cover, it looks to me like they are in a dragon's horde...it might even be a reflection of dragon fire in harry's glasses.

But that would Imply that the book is set in Oceania Shocked .

Not going to happen, unless LV likes dingos and kiwis.

hehe yeah...it wouldn't seem right. but its possible. I wanted to see what you all thought about it. They could easily get an australian dragon in england though...through Charlie or Gringotts. Maybe Charlie gives it to Bill and Fleur as a wedding present! Shocked

Little Hangleton? I don't think it will happen there. I think it will be at Godrics Hollow.
