I'm rereading the sixth book (again) and um big question here Question Why exactly did Trelawney (curse her name I can never spell it) want to get in the room of Requirement. We know she was hiding something and has been for years, but uhhhhhhhhh what and why??????? Question

Okay its long so I will sum some of it up. Hary asks Trelawney (or w/e) why she was in the Roq. she responds with
Quote:
omens I have been vouchsafed --- what?" she looked suddenly shifty

Later she says
Quote:
I wished to --ah deposit certain --um-- personal items in the room. And she muttered something about "nasty accusastions
HBP 541 JKR

And finally
Quote:
I walked into the room and I heard a voice, which has never happened before in all my years of hiding --- of using the room, I mean.

I think she was trying to hide all the empty Chery bottles because she didn't want anyone to find out she is an alcoholic.

I don't believe she is a fraud.
She made the prediction that Neville would break his cup - He did.
She made the prediction about (I forgot who's) Rabbit dying. - It did.
She made the prediction about Hermione leaving their number forever (meaning that she would leave Divination) - She did.
She made the prediction about Wormtail returning - He did.
She made the Prophecy..

We know she isn't a fraud - the prophecy

When not having visions (like the prophecy) she is pathetic and the rest is guesswork

#1 She made him nervous about it so of course he broke it. She probably picked him out as the nervous type when he walked in.
#2 she said "the thing you dread will happen" blah blah blah but as hermione proves Lavender wasn't dreading the death of her rabbit at all, as it was only a baby.
#3 I quite imagine somebody always leaves. McGonagall makes it sound like they're all routine predictions she makes in the first lesson.
#4 that was one of her very rare REAL predictions. It was entirely different from the others
#5 Same as #4

to what halfbloodprincess said, yeah I noticed that too. but she didn't seem very certain of it..."no no that can't be right" but it kept coming back that way. In other words...I don't think she could have made that prediction entirely under her own steam and skill. Something was truly interfering with the cards to tell her danger was coming, but she was too tipsy to do anything about it.

She's just like those phoney ghost talkers like I said before. She says such obvious things that you can always find some truth in it, then once she gets on your good side, you just get sucked in more and more.

Dumbledore even thinks she is fake, he just keeps her around because she made the prophecy about Harry and feels she would be in danger if she were to leave Hogwarts.

She says in PoA that when 13 dine together the first to leave is the first to die.... Ron and Harry stood up at the same time and Dumbledore died before them, so she was wrong.

bah, she's a fake, no matter what anyone says. except Jo. if she says she's for real, I'd believe it, but never before. Surprised lol

she just has a the occasional breakthrough. =) Dumby says in PoA that her prediction count is now up to 2, after she says the Dark Lord's servant will return tonight.

One more prediction thing. She warned Dumbledore about the lightning tower thing in book 6.

I've already explained why those three weren't true predictions. I mean something was bound to happen to Lavender in any general time period that she could attribute to the "prediction", and if nothing happened...she'd probably just forget it was ever made. She's made a couple real predictions, but the rest of it is just good guesswork and smoke and mirrors (ie "the grimm is drawing ever closer!")

she obviously makes true predictions somtimes but the other times she expects everyone to believe her when she says weird things that wont happen. She also guesses a lot probably too.
