|
|
Hi everyone!
I've had a few people PM me and ask: How do you do such-and such?
I thought I'd start a thread for graphic artists and aspiring artists to ask questions about how to make a certain effect, to help improve the quality of graphics on the site! Kind of an overall emcompasing tutorial thread.
You can pose general questions for all artists (ex: How do you make a border on your signature?), Or one specifically aimed at a certain artist. (ex: Kino, can you please give us a userbar tutorial?)
Please remember that artists are not required to answer your questions, and only have to if they so wish! <3 _________________

Luna: This isn't my tutorial, but here's how to make a gimp border:
| Quote: |
1.Okay, after you have finished your sig flatten all layers, now make a new layer.
2.Change the main color to black.
3.Right click->Select->Select all.
4.Edit->Stroke selection(Or something like tat)->Have it on 9.5 Pixels->Click okay.
5.Repeat #4 except have the color on white and the pixel on 7.5.
6.Repeat #4 again with color black and 5.0 Pixels.
7.Put the layer on overlay |
Hope that helps!  _________________

I use Photobucket.com. The normal signature making website. _________________ WATCH

Gimp is better to start off with
And, tinypic.com is a lot better then photobucket, Issy
And yeah Issy, Gimp is what I use, I prefer using free software and making the most of it, even though I have CS2, CS3 and CS3 extended. |

How do you make 70x80 banner? I've tried absolutely everything (Adobe crap, Photoshop - which I still don't know how to use, MANY more) and and I've gotten nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Well, I must be since I can't figure this thing out!
Help! lol Thanks. _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

I hope I don't come off as a little mentally-err, but I honestly don't know what a "program" is. Is it Photoshop or whatever you would use to make a banner?
70x80 is small? Damn, well, once I get help on how to actually do these banners thingies, I can experiment with different sizes.
Thanks. _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

The best size to start off with is 350 width x 110 height.
And yeah a 'Program' is Photoshop/GIMP  |

Is there anyway I could get Photoshop for free? And are there different kinds? If so, which one is recommended for first-time users? _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

I don't recommend you start with Photosop, but rather GIMP.
GIMP is very user friendly and is rather simular to Photosop, I mean everything you do in GIMP, you can do in Photoshop. But GIMP is a lot more easier to learn, and once you have got to grips with GIMP, then you can decide to move on to Photoshop.

Once I've got downloaded and what not, how do I actually start it? I am so new with all this it's ridiculous! _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

Well once you have got it all downloaded and installed, create a new document, and make the size 350 width x 110 height.
Then just muck around with it.
Open images as layers, use the various filters, brushes, pens, and cropping tools |

Well now I have a new issue...GIMP doesn't seem to want to download on my computer.
Eh, it's fine though, personally I think I have bigger (not so much better) things to do on the net. _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

I don't know. Probably something with my computer because everytime I try to download it, a box comes up that say "This File Is Corrupt - Do Not Continue". _________________ "Anyone can bring pen to paper. Only a true writer bleeds the ink." - Simply Just

Oh well, it's fine. Need not worry.
