|
|
Some thoughts and theories about the book covers:
UK Children's edition:
- That is a Goblin standing right behind Harry and holding the sword, and they're inside a Gringott's Vault where artefacts from Hogwart's founders have been moved after Dumbledore's death
- The artefacts we see on the cover feature Rubies heavily - it's all gold and rubies. My theory is that this is Gryffindor's treasure. Interesting myth about rubies - it confers upon the owner an ability to live in peace with his enemies - sort of like Gryffindor tried to do with Slytherin -- and maybe Harry too?
US Edition:
- They're standing in the Dealthy Hallows - a sacred graveyard. Those black shadowy silhouttes in the background that people are saying are Death Eaters in their hoods, or the ghosts of people Voldemort has killed ... well they look like Gravestones to me - and it explains why in the POA movie, Rowling axed the idea of filming scenes in a graveyard -beca
use the main graveyard will be important in later (this) books.
Those are my initial thoughts. This is so exciting and... final...! There will be no further sneak peaks at HP book covers after this one. NUTS! Anyway, what do you guys think about the book cover ?

Sorry, I didn't realize that not everyone had seen them yet.
The links are on the Bloomsbury (UK) and Scholastic websites, but you can also find them on Mugglenet at:

They're truly awesome covers - the US and UK are remarkably different but each gives us just enough tantalizing clues to keep us waiting until the book is released. |

I don't know if this is just me...
But I couldn't see a scar on Harry in either the UK or the US covers.
In the UK version, there is something which looks like it might be a scar, but it could just as easily be a splatter or blood. In any case, it's certainly ambiguous, whereas all previous covers have featured Harry's scar much more clearly.
This feels significant to me. Especially as the last word will be 'scar'. Maybe Harry loses his scar somehow.
Also, when I first saw the UK cover, I thought Hermione had been impaled on the sword Then I realized she wasn't, but it's still a little close to her for comfort. Symbolism, maybe? *Hopes not*
Blessed Be,
