That's a really good idea, lol.

They were able to speak to a few animals through the books. Thestrals understood them, too.

I wish I spoke cat.... real cat, not lolcat. Although sometimes I think cats can understand me. Razz

It makes sense... I mean, if people can talk to snakes, why not other animals?

Maybe snakes have some hitherto unknown importance in the magical world. (I'm not talking about ties to Salazar Slytherin or the Dark Arts). Just throwing out a guess there.

Would that mean the raven or the badger would also have ties, too. And the Gryffin, too?

Perhaps. It could have something to do with the Heads of the houses, or it could be just snakes. Like I said, it was just some odd possibility.

Yeah some ravens can actually talk, but it's nothing extensive of course. From what I hear, it's nothing like a cockatiel.

HAHAHAHAHA . . . I can't believe that I let Twilight take me away from PF for so long!

I'm sure that it would have been mentioned if there were other animal languages . . . and I don't count creature with voice boxes as an animal that doesn't have a language (ie Trolls, Memaids, Giants,)

I suppose just because an animal is not mentioned outwardly as having a language does not mean that it does not have one.

Perhaps Dementors do not have a language necessarily, but they have a hive mind, sort of like the Borgs from Star Trek. (This is coming from my girlfriend. It wasn't my idea, but she isn't on potterforums, so I'm proposing the theory for her.) They do move sort of in unison with one another, if you've noticed, and they only really move individually when instructed or ordered to do so.

Also, I wish I could speak Parseltongue. It's been sort of a dream of mine. I really love snakes and I think it would be lovely to talk to them.

I don't think I'd ever want to speak Parseltongue, but yeah, I understand where you're coming from.

It must be able to talk to every creature on earth- the question is: would you want to?
I think it's actually strange that you can learn this language AND can speak it out of... well, from you birthday on. Even your mother tongue do you have to learn bevor you can speak it. It means that you have something snake in your DNA. Also strange that all snakes from everywhere speak the same language.
